A long desperately needed "first step" in turning away from the heinous sin of child killing and acknowledging life, and each life is a gift from God, begins at conception.

Please do pray for the very imperfect President Donald Trump and all those in his administration, along with other weak and imperfect politicians (FIRST THAT THEY GET SAVED!) to have the strength to stand up and speak out and do what is right (you might want to pray for weak knee'd pastors in this as well)

Please do pray that Jesus take the media and educators out of the hands of Satan and use them, changing them to investigate and tell the truth for a wonderful change.

Jim, are you encouraging us to be prepared to shoot violent life threatening radicals to protect our wives and children?

I do hope you know blacks, browns and whites make up those committing Antifa-type assaults, disruptions and violent attacks. "Editing": Sometimes in black neighborhoods against black business

Here is a heartbreaking one for you, among those going into the local abortion clinic here yesterday, a black mother (I am assuming here, in her 30's) taking in (by appearence) her underage teenage daughter (right along with a whole bunch of thoroughly and deliberately depraved white folks) to terminate by death her own granddaughter ... and you want to preach to me about and white racism

All people need the Gospel
And the sinful cowardice to preach it knows no color lines does it.

No! Not really.
When I speak of "Modern Day "Calvinists"" I am speaking of individuals who I have met and know professing "Calvinism" who are out to convert people to their version of 5 Point Calvinism at all costs, and reject you if you don't.

More than one individual including a pastor who belittles prayer because it doesn't really matter to them because everything is already predestined and to them prayer changes nothing ... one Pastor I suspect because of other things is one who won't even pray for the salvation of his own parents.

And I don't want to forget the camp of regeneration before and totally independent from hearing the word of God, having godly sorrow over their guilt and the intimately personal choice being drawn by God to do so, to accept/believe in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior

Your list is bit of a mixed bag of Calvinists/Reformed, notable to me Durbin likes Ray Comfort; Washer likes Leonard Ravenhill.

Here are some that might help you.

Just a comment
If you haven't already heard of Antifa look them up.

Here were I live there is concern, local Antifa (or Antifa type groups) are planning violence against
Police
First Responders
Churches
Conservatives and Christians

Some are urging that responsible level headed law abiding individuals obtain lawful firearms, training and permits to carry, as part of their lives, to protect innocent unarmed targets of violent assault if an unthinkable attack happens

Certainly a matter of much honest humble God seeking prayer and prayerful study

I apologize my comment twas so brief. I was on my way out of the house.

Never met Spurgeon ... yet.
Until then what I know of this imperfect servant of the Lord Jesus Christ is this,
many of his sermons, various biographies people have made about his life (which often emphasize different aspects of his life)

Some things I have found different with him in contrast to many modern day Calvinists

Prayer
Open-air preaching
Helping the poor
Especially his Christ-centered preaching
(NOT 5 Point centered)

Calvinism seems to have not been a litmus test for those he would associate with, such as DL Moody

And as much as I like him, as much as God has used his ministry in my life, for conscience sake I would differ with this well beloved cigar smoking preacher somewhat on music.

My preaching? Still growing in this.
Understand my heart is in evangelism, in loving lost people. Ever hear of Whitefield weeping over lost sinners? I am not "there" yet but growing in that direction - stand outside an abortion clinic and see mothers bring their daughters in to kill their babies. I like using the Law, warning of Judgment,

There is way too much in this issue to answer in a brief post.

Now this is my opinion/observation:
Some, THANK GOD, not all who call themselves "5 Point Calvinists" have, in my words here hijacked certain Biblical Doctrines, complication and twisting them, in an attempt to foist there version of Calvinism upon others, viewing themselves as the only genuine true Christians, to them all others a wrong or worse of Satan (leads to some serious persecution if you go against them; think: the execution of Mary Dryer a Quaker, June 1, 1660 (no endorsement of Quakers intended)

Enormously different from leading people to saving faith and devotion to Jesus Christ, to know Him personally for themselves, to love Him, serve Him in what He has called them to, NOT what the religious elite dictate to them.

Brief advise, seek to be Biblical, immerse yourself in Scripture, believe and do what God says to you, even if certain Calvinists have a cow.

Please remember "hijack" as if we get sucked into the never ending conflict with "hypers" Satan would have us throw out the baby of genuine Biblical doctrines like election and predestination and become some kind of one eyed Arm

Excuse me, Connor; but why in the world ought I be concerned about your criticism? Are you some kind of infallible teacher, apostle, prophet? Can you separate anyone from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus? Shut up heaven against them?

Do you not know or have forgotten the Lord Jesus Christ was criticized as being a friend of sinners, in my words here, He was someone who genuinely loved and cared for them, so much so He regularly spent time with them, even ...

Thank You, John for Jesus

... to weeping over Jerusalem. I seem to remember a Calvinist of a different sort (George Whitefield) doing the same thing over people he preached to, weeping for them.

Quite likely things the natural man does not understand. And like how unregenerate religious experts fail to comprehend (they cannot)

Yes! A natural man can "decide" to love God ... BUT NOT ON THEIR OWN Only by the Sovereign GRACE & Convicting work of God by His word and His Spirit, to cry out to God to be saved from their sin.

It was good to read your post this Lord's day. God indeed has had such immeasurable mercy upon us who were so dead in our sins, so inexcusably guilty of sinning against Him without any excuse whatsoever.
I love your prayer, and agree with you wholeheartedly, "Father, awaken everyone who professes to believe in Your Son Jesus Christ, from the pulpit to the pews and the pews to the pulpit; empower us by Your Spirit, teach us, lead us and send us afresh into the harvest field to witness the reality and love of Jesus Christ to them, till sinners feel the horror of their sins and flee to Jesus Christ to save them from their sins, to come to love Him preeminently above all others and all other things. Even here in NY State. Amen

I can sense Pink is very, very important to you and your Calvinism; but you really didn't need any "documentation" to know where he was coming from did you.

Here is where I thoroughly disagree, and so should you, with the interpretation "the world" in John 3:16 is only the elect. It is found in the very next verse:

"For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him." John 3:17

the words "might be" contrast considerably with "that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life."

Let me emphasize "should not perish but have" would indeed speak of the elect being those who believe ; but absolutely NOT the interpretation that God loved only the elect, with an immeasurable unconditional love (not an irresponsible arbitrary love).

I think I ought to apologize as "5 Point T.U.L.I.P. Calvinism" is way too an emotional and divisive issue; that will never be resolved by proof texting.

Yes, I already know some/many calling themselves Calvinists are famous for evangelizing ... ones like Spurgeon pointing men to Christ and exhorting them to believe on Him.
While others whom I have personally met are an entirely different sort who might 'break their neck to force someone into their version of Calvinism and exhibit a depraved indifference for the salvation of the lost who come to know, love, follow and serve Jesus Christ; and sometimes even a hostility to someone who by the sovereign grace of God has actually found the Messiah and loves Him.

And lest you forget others, non-Calvinists, also evangelize. Ever hear of DL Moody? AW Tozer? Paris Reidhead? Leonard Ravenhill? Ray Comfort?

My bottom line, call yourself what you will and in the Power of the Holy Spirit evangelize! win people to Jesus Christ! not yours or mine or anybody else's "ism" ... this is of course something the unregenerate will not understand or appreciate

Another Michael. Scripture interprets scripture. Who is the world in John 3:16?

Pink is that you, you old rascal?
So for anyone reading all this I will cut to the chase which Kev illustrates
some hold the world in John 3:16 only means the elect
while others hold the love God has for sinners is for all sinners, supported in verses such as
Romans 5:8 But God commends/demonstrates His own Love toward us in that while we were yet sinners Christ died for us.

So He loves them all
Only those who believe will not perish and have eternal life.

Now let's go love some sinners and tell them about Jesus because they cannot believe in Him in who they have not heard can they.

Is David Allen still the president of the SBC? If so I'll post a link to a...very interesting review of the John 3:16 conference they had awhile back ago.
Connor 7
Look up Pink on John 3:16 (his teaching (?) is what many modern day Calvinists hold to in the matter) and then contrast Pink's words with those of C.H. Spurgeon on the same passage ... then you can tell me.

I don't know who is President of the SBC right now ... it certainly isn't Voddie Baucham nor Paul Washer

But if you want to hear a voice more in line with Spurgeon in our day, try Ryan Fullerton and "The Value of Sinners, Prostitutes and Drunkards"

I appreciate your post.
The issue of Calvinism is certainly one that is often confusing and enormously needing the discernment of the Holy Spirit and the mercy, the grace and the wisdom of God.

The BAPTIST C.H. Spurgeon called himself a Calvinist BUT to his credit sought to convert people to Jesus Christ NOT Calvin quite unlike the modern day Calvinists who hold more to a Pink version of Calvinism (God hates everybody but the elect) than a soul winning one like that of Spurgeon.

“If sinners be damned, at least let them leap to Hell over our dead bodies. And if they perish, let them perish with our arms wrapped about their knees, imploring them to stay. If Hell must be filled, let it be filled in the teeth of our exertions, and let not one go unwarned and unprayed for.”
― Charles H. Spurgeon

Heartbreakingly the SBC is heading to Rome instead of evangelizing precious to God Roman Catholic people who will die guilty in their sin and idolatry and perish against the desire of God that none should perish because "Baptists" wrongly and wickedly accepted them as fellow Christians when they have no testimony of conversion & new birth.

As in the days of Noah ... the earth was filled with violence

As horrible and heartbreaking the shooting in Las Vegas is; we have a much deeper problem that gun control, living in a dictatorial police state will never solve.

Only the Gospel of Jesus Christ has the Power to change men's hearts from sin, and the love of sin to righteousness and a love for righteousness, a delight in doing the will of God.

So let's indeed weep with those who weep
and PRAY
and Go Preach/Witness the Gospel of the Kingdom of the Son of the Living God
make disciples
baptize them in the Name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit

Until He comes or they kill us

Good question. I'm troubled by the loyalty some people have for a church or a denomination even when its disregard of and disobedience to the Bible is so blatantly obvious.
Dear Lady_Virtue
It seems there might be, or the beginnings of some good soul searching thought on these issues.

You and others might like this ... until a person is genuinely born-again of the Spirit of the Living God they cannot understand the things of the Spirit of God.

IMHO our failure to appreciate the Great Commission and go and make disciples is where we have been missing it for years. Imposing an Outward Form of "Christianity" on others, to compel them to behave, simply hasn't been working, especially with people who "self-identify" as Christians like Modern Day Methodists and Ecumenical Roman Catholics suppressing the reality they have a desperate need of the new birth.

Two things
1. We can give ourselves to fervent heartbroken prayer and intercession for them, for their Repentance and their acceptance of Jesus Christ as Lord of every part of their lives and being
2. We must witness in the Power of the Holy Spirit and love them with the Love of Jesus Christ

While such a man might, with prayerful caution be a voice from the other side of the Reformation, for knowledge/information of where those who oppose the Truth are coming from; I have to think it is folly to blend the teachings of one loyal to Roman Catholicism into one's faith, assuming one is genuinely wanting to serve Christ faithfully, as in no place are we ever instructed to let the ungodly teach us and lead us.

Dear Lurker
Maybe someone might call your statement/teaching: Total Abandonment?

Have you not read ... Good and upright is the LORD, therefore He instructs sinners in the way. Psalm 25:8

Since some are found of quoting Spurgeon it might be good for them to consider this:

“If sinners be damned, at least let them leap to Hell over our dead bodies. And if they perish, let them perish with our arms wrapped about their knees, imploring them to stay. If Hell must be filled, let it be filled in the teeth of our exertions, and let not one go unwarned and unprayed for.”
― Charles H. Spurgeon

Oh! And I wonder how many who loudly profess election and predestination, would like this one

“Every Christian is either a missionary or an imposter.”
― Charles H. Spurgeon
