Nice sunny day here after a week of rain. Maybe Camping (another guy who reads the Bible, but concludes it means other than what it says) should make more predictions.
Mike,
Matt.5:45 b says ..for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust.

Your not superstitious are you? If not then you must be trying to say something else?

I like riddles. Are you saying that we are to love our enemies just like our Father in heaven? Maybe for the sake of balance and charity toward the reprover, we should consider that to do so according to 1 Cor.13 also includes verse 6 "Rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truth;" if God's word is a sharp two edged sword that really probes, then it is in the eternal best interest of a man's soul to speak the truth in love. I remember a sermon that declared it may even need to be severe in the case of stubborn resisters of the truth. Yet the reprover is loving their enemy enough to consider his eternal end.

John 3:31He that cometh from above is above all: he that is of the earth is earthly, and speaketh of the earth: he that cometh from heaven is above all. 32And what he hath seen and heard, that he testifieth; and no man receiveth his testimony. 33He that hath received his testimony hath set to his seal that God is true. 34For he whom God hath sent speaketh the words of God: for God giveth not the Spirit by measure unto him. 35The Father loveth the Son, and hath given all things into his hand. 36He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him.

Let the Reformed truth continue to be sounded ... "a Church chosen to everlasting life, agreeing in true faith" (Heidelberg Catechism, Lord's Day XXI)
Agreeing is a key word in the HC. So which Reformed faith would that be? The sects version that refuse to acknowledge that they have back slidden from former attainments and so start their reformation by leaving out the truths that have already been attained; the ones that would cost them the loss of temporal comfort(and the wrathful faces men instead of their smiles) if they embraced those attainments at this time in History?

The National Covenant of Scotland has gone into the greatest detail to decry all the wicked abominations or the Harlot Church of Rome, even greater detail that yours Michael. There was no doubt nor vacillation on that Reformed Church's position as regards the errors of Rome. And Scotland's finest men and women stood to their vows against her encroachment in Church and State unto death. 'A Cloud Of Witnesses' shows the bravest affections for Christ and their ability to pardon personal offense, all the while acknowledging the justice of God for avenging his own offended Diety. Golden.

Hebrews 1:10-13 "And, Thou, Lord, in the beginning hast laid the foundation of the earth; and the heavens are the works of thine hands: 11They shall perish; but thou remainest; and they all shall wax old as doth a garment;
And as a vesture shalt thou fold them up, and they shall be changed: but thou art the same, and thy years shall not fail. 13But to which of the angels said he at any time, Sit on my right hand, until I make thine enemies thy footstool?"

The nations must be put under his feet (to our ascended Mediator the earth is His Father's footstool) and then he will return the kingdom to his Father.

Isaiah 55:6-13 came to mind as I considered the events of this day. I mused on what I considered the obvious event in recent days passed, or the precursor of delusion that was part of the 'Arab Spring' so called. The event in my mind that made the pouring out of the sixth vial of God's wrath evident in time, as I understand it from my teachers.

The sixth vial Rev. 16:12-16 is meant to over throw the enemies of God's people, not political enemies but spiritual enemies in order to give some relief to His poor oppressed people. The question that must be answered is; "Who are His people?" Historically this is not a time to be ignorant of the answer to this crucial question. Relief for some and judgment for others but a righteous end for all.

No John

You twist my words, because you don't understand what I am trying to say.
I have tried to explain, there are reasons I cannot.

See,Ephesians 2:12-22 where it better.

When I say God revealed it to me I am referring to Isa, 30:18-21, He instructed me by His Word, and Spirit and his appointed teachers, most left to me only in print and by an occasional word from others, but not without mixture.

EP, your point. What does your WCF say about this?
John,
My point was that at the height of second Reformation scholarship which included an increased interest in the original Hebrew Old Testament Scriptures, caused many of the Scottish Reformers to hold eschatological views that were held by the early church.

The subject of the Early Church's views of Eschatology were discussed on the Puritan Board not too long ago, by an inquiring young man. Also Steven Dilday (might find on SA under Still Waters) did a teaching I listened to some time ago now. Very humbling. I had zealously entered into a dialog with this man before I understood, who I was talking to. He never said I word. Some weeks later I heard him teach, on a CD, my son had burned for me. Humble man. I learned a good deal from his example. It leveled me for days, I sought the blood of sprinkling for my pride, and blessed God for his qualifications for office.

I think the real problem is the false teaching of Mary's immaculate conception. This subtracts from the humanity of Christ expected since Genesis 3 to be born of a woman, and made under the law. By proclaiming a special dispensation for Mary's original sin it leaves the flood gate of error wide open for worshipping the creature rather than the Creator with all of sinful man's twists and turns of perverting the whole of revealed truth, whether that be in regards to Mary or any other creature. Once that gate is open all kinds of error follows after. Christ's being two distinct natures in one person is imperative for the Covenant of Redemption to be unfolded in the light of the whole of Divine Revelation. Romans 1:18-21

I believe it is primarily first table violations that are reaping havoc in the visible church. It is a much more serious offense to sin against God then man read Psalm 51 and consider.

John UK wrote:
Are you saying, EP, that those who believe that in the New Testament covenant *there is neither Jew nor Greek but are all one in Christ Jesus, no matter which nation or people group they emanate from* are in error?
John if I said that I'd be contradicting God's word in the first part of what you ask and I'd have great reason to fear. No, that is not what I'm saying. But Romans 11 makes it clear, there are two branches from the root stock and one is a wild in graft and the other a natural branch. Both are at this present state scattered abroad in every nation. So that is what we have to work with at the present time and to sort through according to the whole of Scripture. And to do that right now without the knowledgeable assistance of our elder sister, the Jews.

John, there is neither male nor female in Christ, but I don't think that goes without qualification either, and it appears the Scripture has much to say about order and unfortunately some confuse that with the worth or value in the respective duties of each in Christ, not dissimilar to the confusion of place and worth of Jew and Gentile.

Candidate(s) plural Jim? Or are you referring the Mr. Emmanuel who did what Mrs. Clinton did a quick change of residence for strategic reasons. That's seems fishy to me. What qualifies a man for being 'smart' in your estimation? Why wouldn't I rather a wise man who would rule in the fear of God because he believed in the deity of Jesus Christ and his accountability to Him as his Lord? Granted I'd ask no brother to swear an unlawful oath to a deist Constitution, but perhaps someday soon that won't be necessary and those who vote won't have to choose between two evils. Nor will false teachers abound on every side whose teaching kills souls, not bodies.

Larry king - How do you feel when some Christians say that you are going to hell if you don;t accept Jesus Christ?

CV,

I'd think we could tell Larry that it doesn't matter if mutable men accept Jesus Christ, but rather that it unquestionably matters if He accepts them. All judgment has been given to the Son and he knows those the Father has given to him.

As for Mr.Graham, his doctrine is very similar to what John pointed out in another thread regarding Thomas Jefferson, they are essentially deists. Who called Billy Graham to the gospel ministry? The Word of God? A local assembly, and that after his brethren his fellow elders judged him qualified with the gifts and graces for such service in his generation and place?

Is he an Evangelist then? or has that gift ceased as an Divine calling? If so, then how do we justify missionaries?
I think these are questions that need to be addressed for all of us.

I thank God I was able to read this article with a grain of salt. Some few years ago I was invited to a friend's house to dinner. They had invited a visitor to their church to join with us as neighbors and friends. The man was from Nigeria and he to a large degree verified much of what is said here. But to meet the man and question him was also helpful because I learned what foundational information he lacked.

We in the west or eastern nations that have known some measure of freedom like Australia and New Zealand having been entrusted with the glorious gospel of peace have a lot to answer to God for.

The thing that I found confusing was related to, paragraph 9 second page What does Christian mean to the writer of this article? Were these professed Christian police and armed forces dealing with the 'mob that was not in their senses' or true Christians preserving their lives from the disturbed mob? See how unclear and left to the imagination, it will suit for any bias.

David clearly understood that Christ and His elect(children of faith, through all the ages, the true isreal) were spiritual, not earthly.
This is replacement theology and is also errant, just as the dispensationalist error that you point out. Just another error that has caused major divisions and needs to be repented of and turned from, as should all erroneous doctrine. Zeal without knowledge, in a day like this is a dangerous combination. Where does our true knowledge come from?

Paul in his zeal and in association with the Scribes and Pharisees, even though under one of the most esteemed teachers in the nation, during a time of reformation, (Hebrew 9:10) persecuted Steven and hauled men and women off to prison. Acts 9:4And he fell to the earth, and heard a voice saying unto him, Saul, Saul, why persecutest thou me? 5And he said, Who art thou, Lord? And the Lord said, I am Jesus whom thou persecutest: it is hard for thee to kick against the pricks.
This has happened in Church History both Canonical and continuing.

Unless of course they are complying or silent for fear with either those in Magistracy who usurp Christ's Essential Dominion as Creator who is one with the Father and the Holy Spirit, Gen. 1:26 And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.

or

His Donative Dominion in the Church by fearing the faces of men more then the diminishing of the the glory of Jesus Christ her Head and Governor.

Joshua 24:19And Joshua said unto the people, Ye cannot serve the LORD: for he is an holy God; he is a jealous God; he will not forgive your transgressions nor your sins. 20If ye forsake the LORD, and serve strange gods, then he will turn and do you hurt, and consume you, after that he hath done you good.
21And the people said unto Joshua, Nay; but we will serve the LORD. 22And Joshua said unto the people, Ye are witnesses against yourselves that ye have chosen you the LORD, to serve him. And they said, We are witnesses.

This is a type of a Covenanted nation, the antitype was Scotland, England and Ireland, but Scotland in particular. I attempted to explain this but my post was too long and to shorten it ruined it. May God speak for Himself.

My most sincere apologies EP. I should have read everything in context.
I became a living example of Pr. 18:13: He that answereth a matter before he heareth it, it is folly and shame unto him.
Guess I needed to be humbled.
Joe,

Not a problem, who amongst us doesn't need to be reminded of our haste; yet even haste can be somewhat understandable, humanly speaking. If I am focused on something it is very hard for me to let it go. But if I were to stop and ask myself, what is the Lord teaching me, I could probably avoid some unwise choices. Last evening I made a number of errors posting in haste because I was distracted due to 1. the need for brevity and 2. being pressed to cease, related to a shared computer in house.

Dopey, I am somewhat familiar with John Gill but I carefully chose my theologians like I choose what books I read. I know what I believe and those who believe it. I don't have to question what the Lord has taught me by His Word and Spirit over many years.

Wow! An internet poster smarter than John Gill.
Guess you missed the fact that not everyone that is reformed in Soteriology is an A millenialist or a Postmillenialist. But, if you write a commentary on the bible, and a Body of Divinity of the lenght and duration of Gill, I'll read it with the same respect I do His.
I was referring to Jim's author of the booklet he mentioned and your reference to John Gill is going over my head.
