When the Triune God condescends to pity frail children of dust, or effectually call his elect; He begins by pressing the offense of their sin and their present misery, due to it. We are by fallen nature so dull to truth, that God many times makes the misery, so miserable that He has our undivided attention. In so afflicting the the mind and upsetting the affections, the poor sinner will seek God in his Word of Truth whether read or preached and the Holy Spirit will enlighten his mind in the knowledge of Christ. The poor begging petitioner for mercy, 'Behold'ing his desperate need, and the Lamb of God, his substitute, as taking his rightful place under God's due wrath for sin, then understands Christ to be the only true lover of his never dying soul, while the Holy Spirit, is at the same time renewing his will, and enabling him to embrace Jesus Christ freely offered to him in the gospel.Every man's 'experience' will differ related to his previous knowledge base. The work of God will be impressed in time on any poor saved sinner that God has predestinated, called, justified, and glorified. Romans 8:30 |

Contrast: This morning I spoke with an elderly woman who with tears in her eyes said, the Lord showed me my sin and my Savior when he took my son. Then He comforted me in his Word, that he was with Him. As I questioned her a little more; The little book of Robert Murray M'Cheyne came to mind 'Comfort in Sickness and in Death' M'Cheyne gave 4 reasons for sickness in death as he preached through portions of John 11. The basic reasons not for the miraculous as the article would feign, but real sickness and death were 1. to save the person 2. to save a family member or someone close to the sick or dying person 3. to correct for sin and 4. for the glory of God. It is a quick read and a very helpful little book to confront real life with the Truth John 11:25-27 Jesus saith unto her (Martha), I am the Resurrection and the Life: he that believeth in me, though he be dead, yet shall he live: and whosoever liveth and believeth in me, shall never die. Believest thou this? She saith unto him, Yea, Lord, I believe that thou art the Christ, the Son of God, which should come into the world." |

Rev. 22:16-21 "I Jesus have sent mine angel to testify unto you these things in the churches. I am the root and the offspring of David, and the bright and morning star. And the Spirit and the bride say, Come. And let him that heareth say, Come. And let him that is athirst come. And whosoever will, let him take the water of life freely. For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book: (Rev.11:4-11) And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book. He which testifieth these things saith, Surely I come quickly. Amen. Even so, come, Lord Jesus. The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. Amen." Compare Scripture with Scripture from the whole of Scripture. |

Compare 1 Cor. 15 the whole chapter prayerfully to 2 Peter 3 Note verses these verses recorded by Peter "But the heavens and the earth, which are now, by the same word are kept in store, reserved unto fire against the day of judgment(separation) and perdition (utter destruction or destroying in hell)of ungodly men. But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day. The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance. But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up." In private worship, I was caused to think upon Numbers 32:11-13 as it described for the Kirk/Church, that their faithful and true shepherds were like their Master. These were not probationers but witnesses; for Heb.12:4 is true of us, but not of them. The Great Shepherd of the sheep for all ages caused Pastors and Teachers (prophets - see J. Durham's definition of such) to come together in three nations, Scotland going before in the example of their Elder Brother, in order to fulfill Rev.11:1 "And there was given me a reed like unto a rod: and the angel stood, saying, Rise, and measure the temple of God, and the altar, and them that worship therein." This only is the place of safety. see verse 2. This was in order to bring the Church into a uniformity of doctrine, worship, government and discipline for the fulfillment of Psalm 133 and to heed Paul's apostolic admonition of 1 Cor.3. |

San Jose John wrote: God uses means, but sometimes those means can REALLY screw things up for themselves and others. King David's census-sin also comes to mind (2 Sam 24). 2 Sam. 24:11And again the anger of the LORD was kindled against Israel, and he moved David against them to say, Go, number Israel and Judah. This text brought these to mind: relating to ministry and magistracy; 1 Kings 8:35-40 "When heaven is shut up, and there is no rain, because they have sinned against thee;... see the rest of the text on-line Amos 8:11 "Behold, the days come, saith the Lord GOD, that I will send a famine in the land, not a famine of bread, nor a thirst for water, but of hearing the words of the LORD:" James 5:17-18 "Elias was a man subject to like passions as we are, and he prayed earnestly that it might not rain: and it rained not on the earth by the space of three years and six months. And he prayed again, and the heaven gave rain, and the earth brought forth her fruit." Rev. 6:6 "These have power to shut heaven, that it rain not in the days of their prophecy: and have power over waters to turn them to blood, and to smite the earth with all plagues, as often as they will. |

It would seem there is a link between first table violations and second table violations in a covenanted nation, as Israel was; according to 1 Cor.10:1-7 "Moreover, brethren, I would not that ye should be ignorant, how that all our fathers were under the cloud, and all passed through the sea; And were all baptized unto Moses in the cloud and in the sea; And did all eat the same spiritual meat; And did all drink the same spiritual drink: for they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them: and that Rock was Christ. But with many of them God was not well pleased: for they were overthrown in the wilderness. Now these things were our examples, to the intent we should not lust after evil things, as they also lusted. Neither be ye idolaters, as were some of them; as it is written, The people sat down to eat and drink, and rose up to play." |
