@Christopher
We are all well! We had a couple rounds of sickness go through, but are now in the all clear! We’ve been enjoying being in our new home, and have finished up most of the red tape that comes with moving!
@Watcher
I did try to Google it, but couldn’t find anything. But as I said, a full length article directly addressing that issue is a far better gauge of what someone believes than a mere 90 character tweet. Did you look over the article I linked to? Instead of just stating that Muslims do not worship the same God, he also laid out how to Biblically judge if anyones “god” is the same as ours. Therefore it applies to Jews, Hindus, and Flying Spagehetti Monster devotees as well! There are plenty of other articles on the topic of Allah vs God in the World Religions section under Topics at DesiringGod.com as well!
I’ve never run into trouble posting a link before, though I’ve not done one to YouTube that I recall.
Blessings to all!
P.S. Awesome conversations going on here!!

“BTW...Piper believes that Jews, Muslims and Christians all serve the same God. It was a tweet he put on several years ago.”
That’s actually not true:
https://www.desiringgod.org/interviews/do-christians-and-muslims-worship-the-same-deity
With how many misunderstandings have popped up on this forum due to the word limit, I’d imagine Twitter isn’t the best source for determining someone’s beliefs!
BTW, all Presbytarians that I know of believe in Infant Baptisim, but none of them believe it confers Salvation. They simply view it as a NT form of circumsion. I believe in Believer’s Baptisim and therefore disagree with them in this area, but Biblically speaking I don’t think it’s something to question another’s Salvation over.

A. So the people MURDERING babies of all melenin counts are fine- but those who are trying to save those babies’ lives are racists?!?!
B. Universal Health Care includes Universally Free Baby Murder. Therefore you cannot be Pro-Life and support it. It would be like being opposing slavery while investing in slave shackle production. It is furthermore an act of theft and un-Constitutional.
C. Those who do and don’t have insurance do not fall neatly into racial lines. Many white people are uninsured, and many minorities are. You see what you look for, and most people judge everyone else based on their own motives.
Murder is sin according to the LORD. Not providing taxpayer funded Medical care is sin according to the Statists.
“And if it seem evil unto you to serve the LORD, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.” ~ Joshua 24:15

(2Tim 3:16) @Kev Ok, thanks I think I understand your interpretation better. So let me see if I understand your position. Do you believe that there is no legitimate purpose for the law and that all of the commands of the OT are no longer valid? If this is not what you believe than would you please clarify your position.

(2Tim 3:16) @Kev Unfortunately I don't think your post answered my questions. So I will try to clarify them. Mat 5:18 mentions the heavens and the earth passing away. Why? Why do you assume that the fulfil in verse 17 has the same meaning as it does in verse 18 when two different Greek words were used? And finally why does he condemn those who break the laws of God and teach men to do so?

(2Tim 3:16) @Kev you wrote: “I showed that the Old Covenant Law is the Ten Commandments and by calling it Old it is to vanish away.”
If I may, you left out a few things in your exegesis.
1. 2 Timothy 3:15-17 The word “scriptures” here clearly includes the OT and thus the Ten Commandments, since Timothy knew them since childhood. These scriptures are given that we may “be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.” 2. Matthew 5:17-19 In verse 17 the Greek word we translate as “Fulfil” is “Pleroo” which Thayer’s dictionary defines as “to fulfil, i.e. to cause God's will (as made known in the law) to be obeyed as it should be, and God's promises (given through the prophets) to receive fulfilment.” In verse 18 we translate a different greek word (Ginomai, which means “come to pass”) as fulfil. Why bring up “till heaven and earth pass away” and say He had NOT come to “destroy” (Kataluo: “dissolve”) the law if His work here on earth would cause it to “vanish”? And how do you make sense of verse 19?

Blessings to you as well! I’m glad you enjoyed the article and it sounds like you have some great fellowship going on over there! Being sick, we had to miss out on our gathering of the Church today.
We instead listened to “The Profile of an Authentic Gospel Ministry” (tinysa.com/sermon/1022171729580) and I’m part way through reading this sermon of Spurgeon’s:
http://www.romans45.org/spurgeon/sermons/1910.htm
I’m afraid sharing the Gospel is an area I fail miserably in. I’m thinking that perhaps getting some good solid tracts and even just leaving them in places might be a good place to start. I’ve this nagging fear that I’ll butcher it somehow, even though I know that nothing I can do will keep God’s Elect from Him.

I hope the rest of your Lord’s Day is Blessed!

Good Morning Y'all! I ran across this article this morning and thought you might enjoy it:
https://www.thegospelcoalition.org/article/where-evangelism-fails/

One little bitsy observation after reading this whole thread- clarification of the terms "Gospel" and "Love" might be helpful. By "Gospel" do we mean the basics that must be believed in order to be saved- or do we mean a right understanding of how we came to believe those things? Could perhaps people give examples of a proper presentation of the Gospel?
By "Love" do we mean the Eternal Saving Love of God for His Elect- or the Loving kindness He shows for all of His creatures (counting hairs, giving life, breath, sunshine, rain, etc.) and the Love Jesus showed for the rich young ruler and the hungry multitudes? I love the Lord, my Mom, my friends, and pizza. But I don't love the Lord the same way I love my Mom, and I don't love my friends the same way I love pizza!
Blessings!

Some stats on guns in the USA:
In 1994 there were 6.3 gun deaths per capita and 192 Million guns in the hands of civilians.
In 2009 there were 3.4 gun deaths per capita and 310 Million guns in the hands of civilians.

The data from the years in between show a consistent rise in gun ownership and decrease in gun deaths.

The name of the church we attend is Immanuel Christian Fellowship, but we do not have a web address. (We really don’t have a street address either since we meet in either a rented building or the Elder’s barn depending on the season!)

You may be interested in periodically checking NCFIC.org’s Church and Family Directories. I know our family went for many years without a church before we finally found a small fellowship about an hour away from us. We have since moved closer and it is such a blessing and sanctifying experience to be part of a close-knit body of believers! I’ll be praying that you both do eventually find a local church family to be part of! ( At some point, perhaps you could even help plant a church in your areas!) Blessings!

“What a word is that in 2 Thessalonians 3:14, "If anyone does not obey our instruction in this letter, take special note of him. Do not associate with him.”
The very next verse continues: “Yet count him not as an enemy, but admonish him as a brother.”
Isn’t “brother” a closer relation than “friend”?
In God’s good providence, I’m sure that there will be some Brothers and Sisters in Heaven that were Arminians and/or listened to the Grahams while they were here on earth. How should we plan to interact with them?
IMHO, a big problem around here is that we try to use the tiny slivers of people’s character and lives that happen to show up in their reaction to certain news items on certain days, to come to conclusions about the rest of their life. I know at least I’m guilty of that.
Perhaps after mentioning something on which there is disagreement we should just pray that the Holy Spirit will convict that person in that area (or us if perhaps we are the ones in the wrong)in His timing and in His way. Sanctification is as much God’s work as is Justification and we really shouldn’t expect to be able to speed someone up, or we’re bound to be disappointed.

Interestingly enough, Washington referenced more Scripture in a short, one sentence letter, than JL quotes in an average week. In fact, the most commonly used word throughout his writings is “Providence”, a word totally at odds with the basic deism described in JL‘s quote.

He also DID take communion throughout his life, as many eye-witnesses attested in their writtings. He did not, however, take it at the Anglican church during the War of Independence, given both the many prayers for the head of the Anglican church (King George III) that were involved with that service, and the fellowshiping or “Communion” with that tyrant that participating would imply. He instead took it at the churches of other denominations during that time.

Also of note, is the fact that he regularly traveled 9 miles (about 3 hours) to Pohick Church when there was actually a preacher giving a sermon- about once a month. When a preacher was not presiding over the service the Washington family stayed home and read sermons.

Peter Lillback’s book “George Washington’s Sacred Fire” (a 1,187 page tome) is an wonderful, well footnoted, resource on this topic.

“I'm trying to figure out how to answer that question if actions are off-limits in the response..”

I could be wrong, but I don’t think it is the actions that are off limits, but rather the credit for the actions.

“For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure.”~ Philipians 2:13

We repent and believe, but only because God has enabled us to do so by His Grace and the work of the Holy Spirit.

So maybe the response could be something like, “I know I am saved because the Lord drew me to Him, softened my rebelious, sinful heart, and enabled me to repent of my sins and believe in Him and His righteousness as the only means of Salvation.”

On a side note, while I know that’s what happened, that doesn’t mean I understand it. Just like I know that God is one, yet three persons; that He is Sovereign over everthing, yet not the author of sin; and that He has no beginning and no end. Since God IS God, then it makes sense that His creatures will not be able to comprehend everything about Him, especially this side of Heaven!

Blessings!

There are many good reasons not to celebrate Halloween. However, the idea that children simply dressing up gives Satan ownership over them and changes their identity is an un-Scriptural superstition. Our Lord’s “legal rights” are non-negotiable-

Have you ever read “How Should We Then Live” by Francis Shaeffer? Both the arts and the sciences were revolutionized, not by the age of reason, but by the Reformation. Prior to that, the RCC dogmatically expounded the Greek concepts of the universe and anything else (such as Eliptical Orbits and Heliocentrisity) was considered heresy. Not because of conflict with Scripture, but because it contadicted the pagan philosophy of circles being the sign of perfection that had been adopted wholesale. But when the ancient conflict between universals and particulars was solved with the Gospel centered on the Infinite- Personal God, then people began to apply the implications of Christianity to all areas and questions of life. That is what insipired so many to study creation and to discover scientific laws! Before it had been an exercise in futility, but now it had (and has) God-given meaning! We explore and test and question because it is our Father’s creation and He has given us dominion over all the works of His hands!
Yes, the world can be bleak. And, yes, evil men plot and plan for their own ends. But, Praise the Lord, He is Sovereign over all! And, He has told us that He holds such men in dirision, and uses them to accomplish His Good Ends!!!
