Or, even turn people off to Christianity as I see so many street preachers, who most definitely weren't called to street preach, do. I've watched many, many videos of these, and the in your face approach, the screaming, and following people as they scream, "Sinner! Sinner! Sinner!", doesn't plant too many seeds, I'd say. Quite right, Bro. Chris. I'm sure we have all seen street preachers who seemed more interested in getting someone's goat than in proclaiming the good news. I don't know if this particular guy fits that category or not, but I no longer automatically assume that the "evangelist" was without fault anymore. Here's a different approach: George Whitefield - “You blame me for weeping, but how can I help it when you will not weep for yourselves, though your immortal souls are on the verge of destruction?” John Wesley - Does not your own heart condemn you at this very hour? Do not you shudder at the condition you are in? Dare, for once, to lay your hand upon your breast, and ask, " What am I doing? And what must the end of these things be?" Destruction both of body and soul. |

Unprofitable Servant wrote: In my thinking, my concern needs to be over my own prayers than that of the unregenerate at a secular event. I like the little poem attributed to John Burton I often say my prayers But do I ever pray? And do the wishes of my heart Go with the words I say? I may as well kneel down And worship gods of stone, As offer to the living God A prayer of words alone. For words without the heart The Lord will never hear, Nor will He to those lips attend Whose prayers are not sincere. Lord teach me what I need, And teach me how to pray; Nor let me ask Thy grace, Not feeling what I say. I feel the need is greater that my own prayer life be more consistent and fervent than to be concerned about the so called prayers offered by those, who ladybug aptly pointed out, who know not God. Lord, teach us to pray! Thanks, US. May we all be careful that our prayers be not cold and unfeeling. May we approach God with the awe and reverance He deserves. What a great reminder! Thank you, dear brother. |

2 Timothy 1:7 For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind. 8 Be not thou therefore ashamed of the testimony of our Lord, nor of me his prisoner: but be thou partaker of the afflictions of the gospel according to the power of God; 9 Who hath saved us, and called us with an holy calling, not according to our works, but according to his own purpose and grace, which was given us in Christ Jesus before the world began, |

Good morning Saint Mike,I think I get your point about saying that God is not male. In our experience, being male implies the need for a female. (Else, what good is being male?) Yet we cannot say of God that He has ever had need of anything. Also, If we call Him male (what we think of as male), might we tend to create a caricature of God in our own image - one that belies His otherness. Having said that, however, it is best to let God reveal Himself to us in His word, and He has consistently used the masculine to do that. Liberal "Christianity" chafes against God as He presents Himself in the scriptures. One of the ways they attempt to de-throne Him is by decrying the scriptures as "patriarchal." You may remember the ]]"Re-Imagining Conference" in which a bunch of ]]feminists came together to worship the feminine side of God. Obviously, ]]Sophia worship is extreme, but I think it is a big part of the consistent attack we see on the masculinity of God. God bless you, brother! |

For the record...The hardening of Pharaoh's heart was a fulfillment of God's promise to Moses before Moses arrived in Egypt. And the LORD said unto Moses, When thou goest to return into Egypt, see that thou do all those wonders before Pharaoh, which I have put in thine hand: but I will harden his heart, that he shall not let the people go. Bleak was the winter Sabbath morn, And dreary was the sky, When the persecuted left their caves, To worship the Most High. An unfrequented mountain-gorge Received a trembling flock; Their canopy was mist and clouds - Their altar was a rock. And from that lonely, rugged spot, Ascended rich and rare, The incense of the contrite heart - The sacrifice of prayer. And angels, from the heights of heaven, Did look complacent down On the honoured heads that soon should wear The martyr’s glorious crown. And the grey-hair’d sirs forgot their griefs, And all their wrongs forgave, When they heard of Him whose power burst The barriers of the grave. And widows, poor and desolate, And homeless orphans, pray’d For pardon from the throne on high On their oppressor’s head. |
