EA: Both of our beliefs are our opinions. Unless I can give you the Chapter and verse where 'P-U-R-G-A-T-O-R-Y' appears in scripture (find 'Sola Scriptura', Easter, 'Justification by faith alone', Trinity for me!) or give you the exact coordinates in 3-space where it actually exists you will say it's false. But, the Holy people of the Old Testament have always prayed for their dead. Jesus was fully Jewish and therefore said Kadesh for his step-father. The early Christians prayed for their dead, and the Catholic Church in keeping with the long line of God's wisdom still does. How nice for you that one of the quotes from the inspired Word of God that proves my point was removed from the Bible by your Protestant Reformers. Thats actually a very Protestant thing to do. If you can't change something or argue with someones ideas, then have it or them...removed. Unfortunately God said not to change his words, neither to add nor subtract. [Quotes- Matt 22:1-14, Matt 12:32, Matt 18:21-35, Luke 16:19-31, 2 Macc 12:38-46, Matt 5:21-26, 1 Cor 3:10-16, 1 Peter3:19]

TeachinGG: What you say is probably true, but what I said has the virtue of having been a belief of the Jewish people and the Christian Churches for over 2000 years. Your bit of wisdom is not so long lived, I fear!

Ban, what is it about following the rules that you don't comprehend? As usually...a SA "True Believer"...committed to the truth...who can't allow others to have the freedom of their conscience.

The idea of a place for the righteous dead apart from Hell first comes from Judaism. Jews say Kadesh and spend a year in prayer for their dead. In Second Maccabes we see the notion that living Jews can pray for the repose of dead Jews. Twice in Matt and once in Luke, Jesus warns that unless you forgive others, God will hand you over to the torturers until you have paid back the "last penny". In Hell, you never reach the "last penny". It is part of the early Christian Creeds that after Jesus died he visited the dead and freed the righteous to proceed to Heaven. Call that place "Purgatory" if you wish!

Yes Pius XII signed a Concordat with the German Govt., so did all the other Protestant Churches. The Govt of Otto Von Bismark began a persecution of Christian Churches and all of them wanted to sign an agreement to have the Govt give them special priveleges and leave them alone. The lies and calumny started by the play "The Deputy" and the "Hitler's Pope" have been shown to be as useless a trash as the men who made them up. Golda Meir and Albert Einstein both commented on the virtue of both Pius XII and the Wartime Catholic Church. In 1955, to celebrate the 10 year anniversary of the liberation of Rome, the Israeli Philharmonic Orchestra flew to Rome on their own dime to honor the Pope's efforts to save the Jews.

EA: Where is the Declaration of Independence in scripture, where is the Emacipation Proclamation in scripture, where are my car keys? Scripture is not the Encyclopedia Britainica and if it were it would be obsolete, for no writing can hold the sum total of all knowledge. The Scripture says that all that Jesus did could not be encompassed in books. Christ called Peter "Satan" because the Devil was using him to deflect Jesus from his mission. Peter is mention in the Bible more time than any other Apostle. When the Apostle's are mentioned Peter is always first.

I noticed how the headline DOESN'T SAY a lot of things. It doesn't mention the VFW, MTV, or the TVA. What you've mentioned is the typical Protestant attack on a servant of God trying to please God and follow his will. That you have used God's Word to accomplish your demonic nonsense should merit you a stint in Purgatory and if not, at least a boot in the keyster.

What you really mean is, "Are Christians allowed to have fun, or should they spend their lives in Church?". If you only observe something then you aren't actually apart of it...are you?

Just before the Texas Revolution, the Mexican Army came to Goliad to seize the cannon used by the people to repel marauding Native Americans. The Texans held up a flag, "Come and Take it". We shall offer the Islamic militants the same deal that Harold offered the Vikings in England....all the land that they want....six foot at a time.

"Of course, we shall be howled at as bigots..."

MyResp: That's because Dan....you are bigots! Smile all you want...God loves the terminally foolish!

"No peace with Rome..."

"Blessed are the peacemakers???", ever heard of it?

"No peace with Rome, no peace with Protestantism!"

Wouldn't it be funny, if it turned out that the Democrats and Republicans have always really been on the same side in hood-winking and plundering the American people....simply hilarious!!!

Only on SA will you find supposed christians getting their knickers in a twist because the Pope publically criticised God-less Society. When are ya'll going to recognize that your problem with Bene XIV has more to do with competetion between competing brands of Christianity than any real substance.

HW: I should think it was obvious! Having been Catholic for 57 years I know what Catholicism teaches and what are Protestant lies, fables and wishful thinking. When it comes to the fine points of Protestantism...I am silent.

Lyn: I am not boasting. Church membership will not save anyone...only Jesus will. I could write books about what you think you know about Catholicism and fail miserably to understand. Drop your learned Prot prejudices and accept the fact that there are other ways to read the bible than the way you preacher does. I constantly ask God for mercy...thanks anyway!!!!! Your posts make sense to people who think exactly like you do!!!!!

Catholicism is a religion of death...death to self...death to sin...we pick up our crosses and we follow our Lord to Golgotha...this leads to eternal life. Catholicism is also a religion of Life.

Lyn, I am a firm believer that when you don't know what you are talking about, it's better to be silent. You need to be silent. The Christ of the Bible is exactly the Lord that all Christians (especially Catholics) worship. If I were to leave the Church that Jesus founded then I would be like the majority of folk on SA...mislead. My Church does not condone sodomy and pedophilia any more than yours does. If you had not been comatose for the last three years you would have noticed the Catholic Churches that have gone under due to law suits concerning sexual misconduct. The Church got the message. Protestant Churches have the same sexual problems...y'all just don't like to talk about them. While its true that some Bishops violated their Christian vows to protect their people, not all Bishops are guilty and Catholic Lay people will not tolerate continued misconduct. For you to accuse me of guilt shows a lack of basic understanding of Christ's teaching about judging others. Perhaps there is a pine tree stuck in your eye? FYI, I do regularly repent of my few sins and try to avoid repeating them... I go to Church and recieve the Eucharist...just like the early Church did!

One could be a cultist and not be a heretic or be a heretic and not be a cultist...but, I can only imagine vicariously from your experience. Are you 'Bible Thumpers' having a sale? Because my Jesus paid the price to redeem me from my sins...now he holds the note.

"...self flagellation, walking on your knees over broken glass..."

MyResp: I don't know anybody but a poorly informed half-wit that would believe that we teach such foolishness. Tell me more about your hallucinations...do you hear disembodied voices too?

If the Vatican is a circus then Jesus is the owner and the Ring Master. But, we do have openings for some clowns...interested?
