Bert, I would commend to you a prayerful reading of II Thess. 2 for there is the proof you're looking for.

Also . . 'Antichrist Unveiled' by R. Bennett, former R.C. priest here:
http://www.bereanbeacon.org/articles/sorted/01_On_Catholicism/The_Antichrist_Unveiled.pdf

EXCERPT:
“Contrary to flawed popular belief, the popes are not the successors to the Apostle Peter. They are, however, the successors to the Roman Emperor. History shows that Emperor Justinian officially bestowed the title of “Supreme High Priest” on the bishop of the church at Rome in the sixth century. (18) Therefore, the office of “supreme high priest” of the Roman Catholic Church, perpetuated now for nearly 1,500 years, came from an apostate secular source, whereas the Bible proclaims one Supreme High Priest, the Lord Jesus Christ, appointed by God. The pagan Emperor Justinian also bestowed on the bishop of the church at Rome the universal oversight of the entire Christian world. That was when the bishop of the church at Rome became known as
the Pope, arising as Spiritual Head of the pagan Roman Empire. The authority of this historical fact alone ought to be seen as clearly designating the Antichrist.”
(Refer to citation #18 in R.Bennett's article)

John Y,
The only priesthood recognized by God is that of Christ's. He alone has been ordained of God to make sacrifice for sin.

The Levitical priesthood established under the Mosaic Law was but a shadow, looking forward to Christ's eternal priesthood. (Heb. 7) Remember Christ came not to destroy the law but to fulfill it. (Matt. 5:17)

Suggest you prayerfully read the entire book of Leviticus and then read chapters 3 thru 10 in the book of Hebrews. May God be pleased to open your eyes to these beautiful gospel truths!

Hebrews 9:24-28
"For Christ is not entered into the holy places made with hands, which are the figures of the true; but into heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of God for us:

Nor yet that he should offer himself often, as the high priest entereth into the holy place every year with blood of others;

For then must he often have suffered since the foundation of the world: but now once in the end of the world hath he appeared to put away sin by the sacrifice of himself.

And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment:

So Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many; and unto them that look for him shall he appear the second time without sin unto salvation."

In Christian love,

June

SNAP (Survivor’s Network for those abused by Priests) Press Statement
[URL=http://www.snapnetwork.org/snap_statements/2009_statements/092809_sex_abuse_rife_in_other_religions_says_vatican_snap_responds.htm ]]]http://www.snapnetwork.org/snap_statements/2009_st..[/URL]

Sex abuse rife in other religions, says Vatican; SNAP responds

EXCERPT from SNAP Statement:

"In a long series of deceptive and callous statements from top Catholic officials about the church's on-going clergy sex abuse and cover up crisis, this is one of the most pathetic and disturbing.
Parsing words, splitting hairs, pointing fingers, shifting blame - these are the actions of desperate politicians, not professed spiritual figures. These are self-serving public relations maneuvers that rub even more salt into the already deep and still fresh wounds of suffering adults and do nothing to protect the vulnerable.

Catholic officials relentlessly, and deceptively, pretend the scandal is strictly about individual priests committing child sex crimes It's just as much about bishops enabling and concealing child sex crimes. There are, indeed, thousands of "bad apple" predator priests. But there are as many "bad apple" bishops, and one has to question the degree to which the barrel itself is rotten."

Very interesting just reading the first paragraph-so don't believe the lie that the Reformers were first to identify Papal Rome and The Antichrist!
Thanks for your post and this link. I have accessed it once already and hope to revisit it again as soon as time permits.

I found these little known annals of the history of the Christian church to be most informative and instructive, and very helpful too in silencing those who would have us believe that the Reformers were first to identify "Papal Rome as The Antichrist".

Do you Evangelical Protestants on here believe that the Lutheran Church(All branches) has a different jesus?
Those denominations which have joined affinity with ROME in their false ecumenism have effectively turned their back on the TRUTH and embraced “another gospel” (Gal. 1:6-8)

“And I heard another voice from heaven, saying, Come out of her, my people, that ye be not partakers of her sins, and that ye receive not of her plagues.” (Rev. 18:4)

God's Word defines true ecumenism as unity in the Gospel of our Lord & Saviour Jesus Christ – See John 17

John, it is my prayer, and I'm sure the prayer of others who comment here as well, that you too would hear the voice of our blessed Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ . . . .

"Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.

Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.

For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light." (Matt. 11:28-30)

“Holy See” not above international law? ?

UN publishes International Humanist & Ethical Union (IHEU) statement on child abuse and the Holy See

“The UN Human Rights Council today published a written statement by IHEU on the role of the Holy See in the child abuse scandals that rocked the Catholic Church in recent years, and its failure to honour its obligations under the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child.

Commenting on the report, Roy Brown, IHEU Main Representative at the UN Geneva said: "The Holy See has been heavily implicated for decades in covering up cases of child abuse carried our by its clergy and religious orders, in obstructing justice, and in failing to deal appropriately with abusers. Yet for too long it has been given a free ride by the international community because of its presumed moral leadership.”

Holy See responds to IHEU criticism
“One senior UN official described the reply by the Holy See as "a disgrace". We agree.”

Amen Wayne . . More on Church Persecution here:
http://www.bereanbeacon.org/history/persecution/Church_Persecution_Chapter3.pdf

Excerpt
. . . "Is there in all history an instance of so gross and confident a mockery of God, and the world, as this of the inquisitors beseeching the civil magistrate not to put the heretics they have condemned and delivered to them, to death? For were they in earnest when they made this solemn petition to the secular magistrates, why do they bring their prisoners out of the Inquisition, and deliver them to those magistrates in coats painted over with flames?
Why do they teach that heretics, above all other malefactors, ought to be punished with death? And why do they never resent the secular magistrates having so little regard to their earnest and joint petition as never to fail to burn all the heretics that are delivered to them by the Inquisition, within an hour or two after they have them in their hands? And why in Rome, where the supreme civil, as well as ecclesiastical authority are lodged in the same person, is this petition of the Inquisition, which is made there as well as in other places, never granted?" Portugal , p. 446. Limborch . vol. ii., p. 289.]

. . . . . . the church has responded so poorly since the scandals began that it is hardly surprising that people are leaving.”

'The Massive Scale of Child Abuse by Priests in Ireland' by Shaun Willcock

“And for the true Christian, it must always be remembered that even if millions of Roman Catholics ultimately rejected their religion, this is not the same as conversion to Christ!

And this is the great challenge for true Christians! – to seek to show these poor disillusioned people that the “Church” of Rome is not the Church of Christ! It is a false religion, no different from Hinduism, Islam, or Buddhism. Its “christ” is not the Christ of God, its priests are not the ministers of the Lord, its way of salvation is not the biblical way of salvation.”

THE ANTICHRIST Unveiled
by Richard Bennett, Christian Apologist & former R.C. Priest
Link: http://www.bereanbeacon.org/articles/sorted/01_On_Catholicism/The_Antichrist_Unveiled.pdf
Excerpt:

"The historic interpretation has been embodied in the most solemn confessions of the biblical world.33 It forms a leading part in the testimony of martyrs and reformers. Like the prophets of old, these holy men bore a twofold testimony, a testimony for the truth of God, and a testimony against the Apostasy of those professing to be Christian. Their testimony was that
Papal Rome is the Babylon of prophecy, “…that great city, which reigneth over the kings of the earth,”34 and that its head, the Roman pontiff, is the predicted “Man of Sin,” or Antichrist."

Proverbs 14:34:

"Righteousness exalteth a nation: but sin is a reproach to any people."

Proverbs 29:2:
"When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice: but when the wicked beareth rule, the people mourn."

Could it be that God is judging us as a nation by those who presently have the rule over us?

C.H. Spurgeon wrote:

Popery is contrary to Christ’s Gospel, and is the Antichrist, and we ought to pray against it. It should be the daily prayer of every believer that Antichrist might be hurled like a millstone into the flood and for Christ, because it wounds Christ, because it robs Christ of His glory, because it puts sacramental efficacy in the place of His atonement, and lifts a piece of bread into the place of the Saviour, and a few drops of water into the place of the Holy Ghost, and puts a mere fallible man like ourselves up as the vicar of Christ on earth; if we pray against it, because it is against Him, we shall love the persons though we hate their errors: we shall love their souls though we loath and detest their dogmas, and so the breath of our prayers will be sweetened, because we turn our faces towards Christ when we pray.

The Anglican Institution Continues to Unravel – and Rome Benefits
by: Shaun Willcock of Bible Based Ministries / South Africa
Excerpt:
“But what all true Christians need to understand (and sadly, what so many remain ignorant about through lack of teaching) is that Anglicanism is not, in fact, a true Christian church. That which, in the words of C.H. Spurgeon, “with none too much humility calls itself the Church of England”,[7] is not a Christian church at all. It is a harlot daughter of the Mother of Harlots, the Roman Catholic institution (see Rev. 17:5). It was born out of Romanism, and it has retained much of the spirit and doctrine of its mother.[8]

Anglicans need to hear the true Gospel of Jesus Christ! They are deluded. Like the Roman Catholic people, they belong to a religious institution which falsely calls itself a Christian church. They are floundering because they are not founded upon the Word of God, the Bible."

Excerpt / Shaun Willcock's article entitled The ANTICHRIST:

"The Antichrist, then . . .is one who claims to be the chief of all Christians, the Vicar of Christ, in fact he reaches the height of blasphemy & claims to be Christ Himself!

Pius IX was described as "the living Christ", and "the Lamb of the Vatican". And in a speech, he said, "I am the way, the truth, and the life."
Pius X said: "The Pope...is Jesus Christ Himself, hidden under the veil of flesh."
Pius XI, on 30 April 1922, in the Vatican throne room, said: "You know that I am the Holy Father, the representative of God on the earth, the Vicar of Christ, which means that I am God on the earth."
During the Vatican Council, 9 January 1870, it was stated: "The Pope is Christ in office, Christ in jurisdiction and power...we bow down before thy voice, O Pius, as before the voice of Christ, the God of truth; in clinging to thee, we cling to Christ."
The Roman Catholic theologian, Thomas Aquinas, said: "There is no difference between the Pope and Jesus Christ."
The cardinal, Manning, said: "He [the Roman pope] was elevated to be, in his Divine Master's Name, King of kings and Lord of lords."”

Parting thoughts:

Excerpt from ' The Normal Christian life & Catholicism' by R. Bennett, former R.C. priest /www.bereanbeacon.org

“In Catholicism all of this inner foundation of a deep inner fellowship with the Lord is missing. The rituals and pomp, the fine architecture, and captivating music, the mysticism, charismatic experiences, visions and apparitions cannot fill the void that was meant to be filled by a Person, the Spirit of the living God.

You may cling to such teachings and traditions to your own eternal peril. Or you may do what so many of us have done before you. Turn to God in faith alone for the salvation that He alone gives, by the conviction of the Holy Spirit, based on Christ’s death and resurrection for His own, and believe on Him alone, “to the praise of the glory of his grace.” (Eph. 1:6)”

The “holy Synod” continued:

“The holy bodies of holy martyrs, and of others now living with Christ…are to be venerated [i.e., worshipped and adored] by the faithful; through which [bodies] many benefits are bestowed by God on men.”

Can anything be clearer than this? The dead bodies of human beings are to be venerated, that is, worshipped and adored, by the believers. And it is taught by the Catholic Church that these bodies convey spiritual benefits upon those who worship before them.

A far cry from Peter's response to Cornelius, who prostrated himself before him:

Acts. 10:25-26
“And as Peter was coming in, Cornelius met him, and fell down at his feet, and worshipped him.

But Peter took him up, saying, Stand up; I myself also am a man.”

Acts 5:29b
". . . We ought to obey God rather than men."

In the Twenty-fifth Session of the Council of Trent, held on the third and fourth of December, 1563, the delegates of the Council decreed certain matters relating to The Invocation, Veneration, and Relics of Saints, and on Sacred Images. This is what the delegates enjoined, and this is what is still binding on all Roman Catholics throughout the world.

“The holy Synod enjoins on all bishops, and others who sustain the office and charge of teaching, that, agreeably to the usage of the Catholic and Apostolic Church,…they especially instruct the faithful diligently concerning the intercession and invocation of saints [i.e., praying to dead Christians]; the honor [paid] to relics; and the legitimate use of images…but that they think impiously who deny that the [dead] saints…are to be invocated; or who assert either that they do not pray for men; or that the invocation of them…is idolatry; or that it is repugnant to the Word of God, and is opposed to the honor of the one mediator of God and men, Christ Jesus; or that it is foolish to supplicate, vocally or mentally, those who reign in heaven.

God's Word . . the final word:
"Little children, keep yourself from idols. Amen." 1 John 5:21

Excerpts . . The Normal Christian life & Catholicism by R. Bennett, former R.C. priest /www.bereanbeacon.org
"The Christian life shows forth the work of the Holy Spirit that has taken place in the heart.
The Holy Spirit convicts a person of sin and as that person trusts on Christ’s cross and resurrection alone regenerates him to new life in Christ. Then the true believer has a Divine Person who indwells him (1 Cor. 6:19) who loves him (Rom. 15:7) who leads him (Rom. 8:14) who gives him assurance of his sonship (Rom. 8:16), who helps him in his weaknesses by making intercession for him. (Rom. 8:26) He it is who seals the true believer unto the day of redemption. (Eph. 4:30) All of this Divine activity & power is from a Person. In Catholicism the Divine Person of the Holy Spirit, has in practice, been replaced by sacraments that ‘work by their own working’.
It is when one sees a truly Christian life, that one is shocked by how abnormal are such things as bowing down to crucifixes, statues & images, wearing ashes, lighting candles, praying to dead saints, using holy water, performing the stations of the cross, praying for souls in a non-existent place called purgatory, wearing medallions & scapulars & displaying palm branches.”

“Many of the faithful touched the protective glass or pressed rosary beads and cuddly toys against it, hoping the goodness of St Therese would rub off on them.

The sick prayed to be healed and relatives of the dying pleaded for a miracle as they passed the tomb, which is said to contain pieces of her thigh and foot bones.”

Praying to the dead is denounced in God's Word in the plainest of terms.

Tragically for many, the R.C. “church” promotes superstition rather than TRUTH!

The following pronouncements made by the Council of Trent as it relates to official Roman Catholic doctrine is still in effect today:

# "The practice of placing sacred images in churches so that they [the images] be venerated by the faithful is to be maintained." (Vol. 1, p.35)

# "From the very earliest days of the Church there has been a tradition whereby images of our Lord, his holy Mother, and of saints are displayed in churches for the veneration of the faithful." (Vol. 1, p. 193)
