Giving the pope the benefit of the doubt, is it possible that he's not in agreement with everything his church has done and decided? Perhaps he too wished things were different in his church. Marriage is a sacred bond and what God has joined cannot be legitimately "dissolved" by man, not even a pope, a priest, a pastor or a lawyer. The mess our culture is in today is partly due to it's casual attitude toward marriage. Statistically most church denominations are guilty in this department and it is something few care to acknowledge. We pray for revival, for a return to the Bible, but that would mean forsaking adulterous marriages. Sadly there is only a very slim chance of that ever happening. Why should God honor our requests when we don't honor our vows we made to Him and our spouses? This is painful, but revival in O. T. Israel only came after a complete repentance, including giving up their "strange" wives. |
