Albert Mohler expressed the "boycott TARGET" issue a few days ago better than I could and I agree with him. Boycotts have a history of not working, that is they don't achieve any lasting result. It would be great if this time were an exception, we'll see. What a boycott does do is give the common person a sense of power to make a difference in facing up to corporate America, after all it is the common person's money which made so many big corporations big in the first place. The problem with boycotts is that it is impossible in today's world to be consistent in boycotting morally offensive corporations and they know it. Truth be told, if I boycotted every corporation that failed my moral test I wouldn't be able to even type this comment much less send it anywhere - and they know it! Still it doesn't hurt for corporations to be reminded that there still is a sizable population with a moral conscience. |
