This is a dark moment for our nation. Good judges are either forced to live with moral compromise or they resign and the seat goes to someone who lacks that moral conscience altogether. Sad, sad.
Technically speaking evangelical churches have already endorsed polygamy in the sense that divorce and remarriage allows for more than one living spouse at a time.
To the Wayfairer pilgrim from Lubbock,TX, I agree with you in many ways. In addition I feel that much of our modern "indispensable" technology has become a snare to many of us in the churches. It seems that as technology increases true spirituality decreases. Many of us feel the strain that puts under.
I visited the creation museum soon after it opened and was very blessed and encouraged by it. However if this new Ark Encounter project turns out to be anything like a christian Disneyland then count me out.
In following today's dialogues I would have to say that John of Wales has scored the highest in giving the most scriptural answer, certainly it follows the spirit of New Testament teaching. (Not to mention the testimony of the following first three centuries)
This is a no brainer. Christ would never build weapons of destruction and neither would His followers. That is for the kingdoms of this world not the kingdom of God.
What's really surprising is that this issue is dividing the Christian community. And I believe that is an indication of a far deeper rooted problem, namely the shallowness of our biblical understanding and commitment.
But don't we realize that every time a Christian couple divorces they devalue the marriage institution, which really has already done more damage than what "gays" and atheists could ever do. I'm afraid Christians have dug their own grave on this one. Did God change His mind after He inspired Malachi, and spoke through His Son and the Apostle Paul?
This is nothing new. Girls started wearing boys pants back in the sixties. Society seemed to be ready for that then, but wasn't ready yet for boys to wear skirts. I guess that's changing now too.
I believe that in a sense Tony Campolo represents that church at large. Maybe not today, yet. But the church at large has a long sad history of compromising plain biblical teaching. Whatever happened to the sin of divorce and remarriage? Fornication is now all too common in churches. Women once would never sit in church with their heads uncovered, now only men are required to obey the 1 Cor. 11 mandate. The list could go on but you get my point, the Church today is quite comfortable with compromise, it just takes a little time to get there.
Michael, I didn't say Jesus never provoked anyone, in fact He provokes me to godliness every day. I'm just saying He wouldn't provoke in a demeaning way as these misguided cartoonists intend to do.
We have a Augustinian/Antinomians church on the one side and a glitzy world on the other, who wouldn't flee if one perceived these to be the only choices?
