For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. This is what I celebrate on December 25, sc—although I could as easily celebrate it on January 1, March 9, or November 22. “Let every man be fully persuaded in his own mind.” I am fully persuaded that it is perfectly acceptable to celebrate the first advent of Christ and to call that celebration by the name by which it is commonly called. You are persuaded that it isn’t acceptable. So don’t do it. We are not commanded not to follow traditions unless they contradict a clear commandment of God. Christmas does not. In fact, certain traditions are commendable—II Thessalonians 3:6. My last post on this issue, as this annual debate accomplishes nothing. |

As a 25-year-old foul-mouthed habitual drunkard, blasphemer, sorcerer, idolater, whoremonger, thief, liar, etc. I would have never gotten saved by confessing my sins individually. Before I could have gotten to the end of the list, if that had even been possible, I would have committed more sins. At any rate, I didn’t get saved by what I did. I got saved by relying exclusively on what HE did. Come every soul by sin oppressed There’s mercy with the Lord And He will surely give you rest By trusting in His word Only trust Him, only trust Him Only trust Him now He will save you, He will save you He will save you now |

John, when I got saved, I knew absolutely nothing about salvation and Christianity. I prayed and asked the Lord to save me because that’s what the gospel tract said to do, and at that point I was willing to do ANYTHING to be saved (thank God I wasn’t approached by some JWs or Mormons!). It was only later that I realized that God saved me before I prayed, because I trusted Him before I prayed. If this doesn’t make sense to you, I don’t know how to explain it any better, but I know I’m saved not because I said a prayer, but because I received the Lord Jesus Christ, by faith, as my Saviour. I have often been the sorriest specimen of a Christian there ever was, at times even “living like Hell,” as you put it, although certainly not without remorse, conviction and chastening. I have stumbled and I have fallen but by His infinite grace the Lord has always picked me up and put me back “in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.” Like the psalmist, “I have gone astray like a lost sheep,” but the Good Shepherd who claimed me at the first always seeks me again. “Blessed be the name, Blessed be the name, Blessed be the name of the Lord!” Hallelujah!!! Ain’t He good? “Worthy is the Lamb that was slain to receive power, and riches, and wisdom, and strength, and honour, and glory, |
