Good points, JUK, and a very fine line here. Paul wanted to preach in Bithynia but the Holy Ghost told him no. He went instead to Philippi, and how I thank God he did, for there he penned the wonderful words âBelieve on the Lord Jesus Christ and thou shalt be saved,â the words that brought about my salvation and no doubt the salvation of many others. The missionary who was killed was a graduate of Oral Roberts University. Roberts was the âfaith healerâ who told his financial supporters that a 900-foot Jesus told him they must give him the money to build a hospital. (Jesus and the apostles were faith healers. I donât see in the Bible where they ever built a medical center.) I doubt very seriously that a graduate of a school named after a huckster like Oral Roberts would be doctrinally sound regarding the leading of the Holy Spirit.
Chris GP, your comments regarding Israel are among the few scripturally sound ones ever to appear on this site. Itâs funny how so many Christians who warn against spiritualizing other scriptures will try to hijack the promises made specifically to the Jews and superimpose them onto the church. My only comment on this subject, as the âIsrael really means the churchâ gang has already made up their minds to believe that God has cast off Israel contrary to His word.
Great comments, Connor. BDF, I get a lot of those calls, too. From now on I think Iâll tell them Iâm Sentinelese and if they ever call me again Iâll kill them. Maybe that will be more effective than pressing 9 to be placed on an imaginary do not call list.
For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. This is what I celebrate on December 25, scâalthough I could as easily celebrate it on January 1, March 9, or November 22. âLet every man be fully persuaded in his own mind.â I am fully persuaded that it is perfectly acceptable to celebrate the first advent of Christ and to call that celebration by the name by which it is commonly called. You are persuaded that it isnât acceptable. So donât do it. We are not commanded not to follow traditions unless they contradict a clear commandment of God. Christmas does not. In fact, certain traditions are commendableâII Thessalonians 3:6. My last post on this issue, as this annual debate accomplishes nothing.
SC, turkeys played an important role in the social and religious customs of many Native American tribes. At least two tribes even had turkey gods. Every time you eat a turkey sandwich, you are engaging in pagan practices and worshipping the gods of the heathen. Now if that sounds a bit far-fetched to you, so does your weird claim that my observance of Christmas ties me in with the Catholics. I have never set foot in a Catholic church. I have never been to massâalthough Iâve eaten enough turkey sandwiches to acquire some mass, especially around the waist. I thought Eucharist was someone who plays euchre. I am about as un-Catholic as it is possible to be. So you go on disobeying scripture and condemning Christians who enjoy Christmas, and Iâll go on enjoying Christmas. Feliz Navidad.
Kenny, maybe we just need to be more hospitable to Jim. You know, take him out to eat at the Big Chicken. Sit with him and watch a Thunderbirds airshow at Dobbins AFB. Treat him to hot dogs and Coke at the new Braves stadium. And then if he still acts like a heel, throw him in the Chattahoochee River.
As a 25-year-old foul-mouthed habitual drunkard, blasphemer, sorcerer, idolater, whoremonger, thief, liar, etc. I would have never gotten saved by confessing my sins individually. Before I could have gotten to the end of the list, if that had even been possible, I would have committed more sins. At any rate, I didnât get saved by what I did. I got saved by relying exclusively on what HE did. Come every soul by sin oppressed Thereâs mercy with the Lord And He will surely give you rest By trusting in His word Only trust Him, only trust Him Only trust Him now He will save you, He will save you He will save you now
Yes, QC, it makes perfect senseâand Democrats will fight it tooth and nail because they are too stupid to see that what they imagine is good for the Democratic Party is actually destroying the nation, without which there will BE no Democratic Party.
John, when I got saved, I knew absolutely nothing about salvation and Christianity. I prayed and asked the Lord to save me because thatâs what the gospel tract said to do, and at that point I was willing to do ANYTHING to be saved (thank God I wasnât approached by some JWs or Mormons!). It was only later that I realized that God saved me before I prayed, because I trusted Him before I prayed. If this doesnât make sense to you, I donât know how to explain it any better, but I know Iâm saved not because I said a prayer, but because I received the Lord Jesus Christ, by faith, as my Saviour. I have often been the sorriest specimen of a Christian there ever was, at times even âliving like Hell,â as you put it, although certainly not without remorse, conviction and chastening. I have stumbled and I have fallen but by His infinite grace the Lord has always picked me up and put me back âin the paths of righteousness for his nameâs sake.â Like the psalmist, âI have gone astray like a lost sheep,â but the Good Shepherd who claimed me at the first always seeks me again. âBlessed be the name, Blessed be the name, Blessed be the name of the Lord!â Hallelujah!!! Ainât He good? âWorthy is the Lamb that was slain to receive power, and riches, and wisdom, and strength, and honour, and glory,
