Look at Hebrews 5:11-14 and 6:1-3
• There are several doctrines mentioned in verse two: (vs 2) mentions baptisms—this would include John's baptism, water baptism, spirit baptism, etc. These are not the foundational or first principles that bring people unto perfection. • (vs 2) mentions the doctrine of laying on of hands. We could spend a whole hour talking about the different types of laying on of hands whether it refers to ordination, imprisonment, etc. • (vs 2) It mentions the resurrection of the dead The Sadducees did not even believe in the resurrection; we could consider Lazarus, Old Testament saints, the rapture, the Second Coming, the valley of dry bones, etc. • (vs 2) It mentions eternal judgement There are people don't believe in hell or the judgment of the lost.
POINT: A person can be taught how to win theological arguments. You don't have to be spiritual to be knowledgeable about the Bible. It is not enough to know the truths and sometimes enough to think you know them. (5:13) says that a person can be unskillful in the word OF RIGHTEOUSENSS. It does not say unskillful in the WORD, but the word of righteousness.
(5:14) most people in Independent Baptist churches are well taught on how to discern EVIL. We are good at judging people. We are not near as good at picking up on what is GOOD—or discerning what is good. Too many Independent Baptists fail in being gracious and kind, loving and considerate.
