@SC
The Puritan’s also rejected the Gregorian Calendar as part of Rome. Do you? Or has the context in which we are living out our Christian walk changed?
Catholics and Atheists celebrate Thanksgiving. Do you “become” either of those when you do as well? Jehovah’s Witnesses and Muslims don’t celebrate Christmas. Do you “become” either of those when you join them in not celebrating?
I simply stated historical facts- you can either accept that or ignore it. You are free to have your opinion and I hope you have a Blessed evening!
@John UK
The word was around before the doctrine, therefore it cannot mean the doctrine. Also, idolatry is a state of the heart, and an idol is, as Paul said, “no thing”. There is a lot of new research on this topic that contradicts much of what has been batted about as the “pagan” roots of Christmas. I hope you have a Blessed evening as well!

@B. McCausland
I've no problem with people chosing not to celebrate Christmas, if they are so convicted. I personaly do. My post was particularly addressing SC’s repeated definition of the word “Christmas” not the use of Mistletoe.
@SC
“"mass" is used and was always used as a re-sacrifice of Christ.”
False. The RCC loves to claim that they never change, but they do. For the first 1,000 years of their existance the idea that Christ is literally present in Communion was not RCC doctrine. No presence= no sacrifice. Are New Year’s, Thanksgiving, Independence Day, or personal anniversaries in the Bible? No. Yet we see warrant and commands to set up special days to commemorate God’s goodness. Is the sucessful harvest of the Pilgrims a greater historical event then the advent of the Word made flesh? If your conscience does not approve than don’t partake. But please don’t use faulty historical arguements to judge those who have given it study, thought, and prayer and have arrived at a different conclusion than your own.

200's AD- First recorded celebrations of Christ's birth and calculations setting the date as December 25th.
500's AD- Old English/Latin form of word "Mass" (meaning "to send") in wide use.
1038 AD- First recorded use of term "Christmas".
1215 AD- Heresy of Transubstantiation (the idea of "sacrificing" Christ at Communion) adopted by the RCC.

As can be seen in this timeline, the word "Christmas" was coined before the word "Mass" was twisted into reffering to the abomination of Transubstantiation. To define the word "Christmas" as a reference to that heresy would be like defining a 19th century reference to "gay apparel" as cross-dressing; or equating the term "4th of July" with fireworks. Things people associate with a word, or later changes to the things a word can refer to, do not determine the actual definition of a word.

I’m afraid I still don’t grasp the reasoning of why we should even feed the trolls on one topic, but that’s neither here nor there. Hope you have a very Blessed season!

“Often 'biting each other' is not recognized for what it is, and passes disguised as 'holy indignation',
I’m rather afraid I’ve been guilty of that myself. It can be easy, for me at least, to get so wrapped up in a zealous defence of what I hold to be Biblical truth that I lose sight of the Biblical commands regarding grace and humility. If I am aiming to share sound wisdom, (including wisdom gleaned from others) than it should look like this:
“But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, and easy to be intreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy.”~ James 3:17
@Lurker
I think your diagnosis is correct- with the addition that the churches themselves generally train kids that whatever the adults are doing in the sanctuary is “boring”. Not too surprising that once they age out of the “Fun and Games”, they just leave. PS: Looks like your arm was safe!
@JuneAnnette
I thought you were reffering to Mike’s comment as “shameful”. Was I wrong? If so, I apologize for including that in my earlier comment.

“It's also sad that some refuse to rebuke the trolls”
I’m a tad confused here. Last week, on another thread, you begged me not to take SteveR’s bait- now it is sad that people don’t engage? To be honest, I thought about asking him if Poland was making Jesus as represented by Scripture or Jesus as “represented” by the pope, King. However, I realized that his post was totally off topic and likely just a dig at y’all. Come back later, and everyone is so worked up that Mike’s off hand remark that this topic has been coming up more than usual lately, is taken as evidence of agrivation, part of a pattern, and shameful! May I do you the favor you did me, and ask that we not bite at bait? Because when we do, we seem to end by biting each other. Hope y’all have a Blessed day!

Yes, it also varies depending on what the laws were when one was born. At any rate, I just think we could have made better headway with other objections; and with how corrupt Obama is, I would have preferred someone more stable and trustworthy to investigate him.
All’s good up here, plenty of Siberia and Planet Hoth quips being passed around! Right now it a balmy 23 degrees outside and is forcasted to drop alllll daaaaaaay looooong, until it bottoms out at -7 degrees tomorrow morning!
I must confess I’ve no clue when Ohio faces Alabama, but I wouldn’t underestimate ‘em! Around here “The Game” is Ohio vs. Michigan! As long as we win that, it’s a good season, win or lose the rest!! Go Bucks!

I must say, there were reams of solid, provable, reasons to oppose Obama. Yet some folks picked the weakest arguement against him. In light of actual facts, the whole thing is pointless. A. The local Hawaiian Newspaper has a Birth Announcement from the day he was born. B. Even if he HAD been born in another country- as long as his mother was actually his mother he is a Natural Born Citizen.
Arpaio is an embarassment to conservatives and I’m glad he’s out of office. When you go around bragging that you run a “Concentration Camp” you are unfit for office- never mind the incident where his deputies invented a bomb threat on Arpaio, planted evidence, and tried to charge and imprision an innocent citizen. That one alone cost his county taxpayers thousands of dollars. Complete Dirt Bag.
WND’s support of these things, in addition to running multiple stories that, after some basic research, proved to be “fake news”, is why I don’t use them as a news source.

“God does not keep his word nor faith from anyone that has ears to hear only they that turn their ears will not hear Because of their own lusts”
So... The difference between you and an unsaved reprobate, is that you gloriously overcame your lusts of the flesh; revived yourself from spiritual death, opened your ears, softened your heart, and took yourself to God’s bargining table to sign a contract for your salvation. What’s the matter with all those other dolts who didn’t follow your example?
Yet, what if you’re wrong? What if it was the Lord who revived you, opened your ears, softened your heart and drew you to Himself? What if you are stealing Glory that is actually due to Him Alone?
Personally, I’d rather be wrong by giving God too much credit- then be wrong by giving myself too much.

All I can say is that this Young, not very restless, but certainly Reformed, Calvinist owes way too much to you ‘builders’ to be so ungrateful! A book that you may wish to recommend to YRRs like that is “Killing Calvinism: How to Destroy a Perfectly Good Theology from the Inside” by Greg Dutcher. It addresses the issues you mention (and more)!
@Ladybug
I honestly don’t think many people equate “Calvinism” with “Believing everything Calvin wrote”; but rather they equate it with what we would call “The Doctrines of Grace”. And so for the sake of being clear and upfront, if asked, I call myself a Calvinist. Personally, I do not believe saying “Calvinism” credits Calvin for Biblical truth, any more than saying “America” credits Ameriggo Vespuci with Creating this Continent. I also greatly appreciate, when looking for a website or book on certain theological issues, when people are upfront about their distinctives. If everyone only used the term “Christian”, you could spend a lot of time buying and reading books, only to discover by an off hand comment part-way through that the author is RCC, SDA, JW, etc. Just my thoughts on this, hope you have a Wonderfully Blessed day!

I’m sure there are Calvinist jerks out there. I know from unhappy experience that there are Arminian jerks out there. Yet, limited personal experience seems a poor way to judge the veracity of a system of theology. I’m very sorry that Ladybug and MS have run into such terrible representitives.
If asked, I do descibe myself as a “Calvinist”. Not out of any man-worship, but because that is the term most widely used to describe what I believe the Bible teaches about Salvation. I grew up an “Arminian” and in those circles the terms “Doctrines of Grace” or “Reformed” are pretty much unknown. I remember once meeting a friend of a friend who asked if I went to a “Reformed” church. I told them yes, but was slightly taken aback because I thought “Reformed” meant “Protestant” and it was puzzling that this person would think I might be a Catholic!
Labels don’t create division any more than an inanimate object creates sin. If suddenly all labels were erased you would still have Christians arguing over Grace vs. Free Will, Church Government, and a host of other things. Labels help in a day and age when the term “Christian” seems to mean anything to anyone.

“To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation.”~ 2 Corinthians 5:19
Focus on this part: “reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them”.
In plain English and according to your definition of ‘world’ it would read: “reconciling everyone unto himself, not charging them with their sin.”
Thus you have 2 choices- either ‘world’ does not, in fact, mean ‘everyone’; OR God does not hold anyone accountable for sin.
P.S. 2 Corinthians was written after Christ’s earthly ministry. And furthermore, do you then believe He reconciled all of the Pharisees to Himself, and didn’t openly charge them with sin? “Judge” and “Condemn” are not synonyms of “Impute”.

Thanks for the good advice and for re-stating my question to J4J!
@J4J
If, as you are claiming, the word ‘world’ means everyone, then according to that verse God does not hold anyone accountable for their sin. If that is your belief, then do you believe anyone goes to Hell? Or does God send them there for no reason? Also, what is the point of telling people to repent if their sins are already disregarded?

Actually, both of my parents are American.
More verses on Christian communication:
“But I say unto you, That every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment.”~ Matthew 12:36
“A good man out of the good treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is evil: for of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaketh.”~ Luke 6:45

“i exposed his satanic Calvinism”
You “exposed” nothing- you simply made a historically impossible, illogical, unsubtatiated assertion.
For example, I could assert that you are not writing in a gracious manner. However, to actually “expose” your lack of manners I should provide something you actually wrote- like “his shameless to the death heretical mouth” or “shameless vile reverse psychologist”.
