Sermon:
Sins Passed Away

“ A most comforting sermon ”
Those who say the OT is irrelevant are poor misguided souls. Our Lord himself instructed his followers that the prophets of old spoke of Him (Luke 24:27) as did the Apostle Peter (1 Peter 1:10-11) In my own experience, I have found it truly a blessing to see for myself by searching the Scriptures how the OT prophecies find their fulfillment in the New. What a wonderful prophecy of Christ as our Advocate is found in this OT text. How good it is to have the Lord on our side to rebuke Satan . . the accuser of the brethren . . when we are under his fierce attacks. 1 John 2:1 "My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous:" What a comfort it is to know that my sins which testify against me are all forgiven in Christ, and that he has taken away my filthy garments. Isaiah 61:10 "I will greatly rejoice in the LORD, my soul shall be joyful in my God; for he hath clothed me with the garments of salvation, he hath covered me with the robe of righteousness, as a bridegroom decketh himself with ornaments, and as a bride adorneth herself with her jewels." Thank you Pastor Pickett for drawing out from this OT text the glorious gospel truths that are to be

Sermon:
God in the Midst

“ A most uplifting sermon ”
What comforting words are found in this text. How wonderfully Christ has fulfilled this prophecy and is set before us as a loving and caring husband, to whom His people are betrothed forever. (Hos. 2:19-20) Thank you Pastor Pickett for carefully expounding this beautiful passage of Scripture to my soul through which I was blessed, strengthened and encouraged. It was a most gracious word in season (Is. 50:4) to this weary pilgrim that revived my spirit and rekindled my love for my dear Saviour and Lord. How good it is to know that the Lord Jesus Christ is in the midst of His people and to sense his nearness to us in a very personal way. And as you so well said, knowing that He rejoices in us should give rise to us ever rejoicing in Him.

I commend to readers this man of God, who like Daniel, was unwilling to pay the high price of compromise, to "cut a deal", and gladly bore instead, the "reproach of Christ". (Heb. 13:13)
---------
Excerpt from article by former Alabama Chief Justice Roy Moore, entitled 'Taking the Lonely Stand':

"Naval chaplain Gordon Klingenschmitt served our country for 15 years until he was given an order he could not follow: Do not pray in the name of Jesus at public military functions. Risking his military career, Lt. Klingenschmitt publicly objected to the new policy of the secretary of the Navy and continued praying in the name of Jesus at public functions. The Navy then proceeded to court-martial the chaplain and quietly discharged him from the Navy, depriving him of retirement benefits despite his stellar service record. Though his personal sacrifice was great, it yielded results. Because of the attention chaplain Klingenschmitt had brought to the Navy and Air Force policies restricting chaplain prayer, Congress ordered those policies revoked, giving back to chaplains the freedom to pray as their consciences dictated."
------------
Is this not the godly example we would expect from those who have the spiritual rule over us? (1 Pet. 5:3)

How obnoxious and insulting to God it must be for a "church" who professes Christ to have become nothing more than an advocacy group for homosexuals, a practice that God's Word declares to be "an abomination".(Lev. 18:22)
Christ came not to leave us in our sins, but to call us to repentance and to save us from them. "I am not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance."(Matt. 9:13b) This was the message brought by John the Baptist & the Apostles, and this is the message/witness that the church is mandated to bring as well.
It is more than fair to say that the Church of Ireland has gone "off message" and is no longer preaching the whole counsel of God; no longer upholding the standard of the gospel; no longer preaching the Doctine of Christ; no longer set for the defense of the gospel; no longer contending for the faith; no longer preaching repentance toward God and faith in Jesus Christ; no longer speaking the "truth in love". (Eph.4:15)
How can anyone who has experienced the transforming power of the gospel (Rom. 1:16) take seriously any remarks they have to make, seeing they are themselves "blind leaders of the blind".
I would commend to their reading an article in the form of a rebuke found at: http://www.cprf.co.uk/articles/pciandsodomy.htm

A consensus of opinion is not the arbiter of Truth . . God's Word is! The Scriptures are replete with examples of ONE godly man who stood for, and walked in Truth, over and against many who walked contrary to it.
Moreover, the servant of the Lord is to be an "example to the flock" (1 Pet. 5:2-3), and is to uphold Truth and walk uprightly.
What is at issue is:
1) the unscriptural, unethical, and immoral nature of the power-sharing alliance Rev. I.Paisley has entered into with SF/IRA;
2) whether Rev. Paisley's position as 1st Minister of N.I. presents a 'conflict of interest' with his position as a Minister of the Gospel of Jesus Christ & Moderator of the FPC;
3) the preservation of the FPC's Christian witness from further weakening and compromise.
These issues are addressed in Matt. 6:24b:
"Ye cannot serve God and mammon."
--------
At the end of the day, what really matters is . . who is on the Lord's side!
Joshua 24:14-15
-------------

The Stand of the FPC itself witnesses against this ungodly alliance:

"Sanctified in Behaviour, encouraging its members to lead godly lives in obedience to God's Word, that will be testimonies of holiness and righteousness, in a world increasingly plagued by lowering moral values."

The words of Charles Haddon Spurgeon spoken to his ministerial colleagues seem most fitting now for Those FPC Ministers of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, WHO HAVE AS YET REMAINED SILENT on this most serious, solemn, and urgent matter regarding the ungodly, unscriptural, unethical, and immoral power-sharing alliance that Rev. Paisley, the Moderator of the FPC, has entered into with SF/IRA:
--------------
"Yet, surely, there must be some who will fling aside the dastard love of peace, and speak out for our Lord, and for his truth. A craven spirit is upon many, and their tongues are paralyzed.

Oh, for an outburst of true faith and holy zeal!"

Charles Haddon Spurgeon,
from, Notes, The Sword and the Trowel,
May, 1889

If you are an FP concerned about power-sharing between Rev. Ian Paisley & SF/IRA, visit this site:
www.concernedpresbyterians.com
Intro:
"This site is intended to be a help, encouragement, and voice for the members of the FPC, who are unhappy, saddened, and grieved by the recent political developments in our province and especially the role of senior church members in them and therefore the association of our church with what we consider to be unethical, immoral, and unscriptural.
Our unhappiness is exacerbated by the central role our Moderator plays in the new administration. It is incompatible with the accepted principle of separation of church and state for the head of a church to also be the chief magistrate. The incongruity is further aggravated when the very existence of the administration for which he is the chief magistrate is contrary to the principles the Word of God prescribes for civil government---the presence of as yet unrepentant murderers and their apologists in the executive being the principal issue. Whilst acknowledging the significance of the labours of Dr. Paisley to the birth and development of the FPC we believe that he cannot remain as Moderator given his alliance w/SF & his inability to justify or defend his change of stance scripturally."

The price of abandoning the biblical principles which are to guide the Christian's life is simply too high a price to pay for one's country, neither does God require such of the child of God. As First Minister of N.I., Rev. Paisley has sworn to uphold the laws of the land. One such law requires him to allocate funding for homosexuals. When he allocates these monies to promote the "gay agenda", he will be condoning and promoting immorality, and in the process, contravening God's holy law, which calls such a practice, an abomination. (Lev.18:22) For Rev. Paisley to do so, is a betrayal of his solemn vow as a Minister of the Gospel of Jesus Christ to uphold God's law. He is now confronted with the same choice that confronted Daniel. (Dan.6)

We as Christians, cannot equivocate in our stand for Christ. Furthermore, God requires the standard of the gospel to be exemplified by those who have the spiritual rule over us. (1 Pet.5:3)

Rev. Paisley, we who love the Lord, would have preferred that you had declined the position of First Minister of N.I., and instead had chosen to go outside the camp and bear the reproach of Christ, with the people of God. (Heb.13:13)
". . We ought to obey God rather than men." Acts 5:29b
". . Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice." 1 Sam.15:22b

When the gospel is preached faithfully, sinners are set free from their bondage to sin, and through the operation of the Holy Spirit, as those of us who have experienced God's grace in our lives can attest.
It is not the role of the Gospel Minister to make us feel good about our sins. It is not "hate speech" to warn the sinner that so long as he remains in his sins, he is under God's wrath. It is not the purpose of the Church to tolerate, sanction, or in any way encourage the practice of any sin, including that of homosexuality. The purpose of the Church of Jesus Christ is not to provide a venue for practicing homosexuals to promote their agenda or gain acceptance of their sin. It would be equally absurd to allow a murderer, an adulterer, or a drunkard to do likewise. God's Word plainly declares homosexuality to be a sin. Lev. 18:22: "Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it is abomination." Christ Jesus came into the world to save us from our sins, not leave us in them. "And thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins." Matt. 1:21b

We should rejoice that there are still faithful Gospel Ministers like Rev. Stewart who speak the "truth in love".
Eph. 4:15
