John-UK . . a word in season . .

Galatians 1:10
"For do I now persuade men, or God? or do I seek to please men? for if I yet pleased men, I should not be the servant of Christ."

John,
how easy it is to go along to get along. Notwithstanding, it takes courage to swim against the tide.

I share with you a case in point from the life of C. H. Spurgeon for your encouragement:

1) Looking for a fight it seems, he preached a message condemning baptismal regeneration (the belief that the act of baptism will save a sinner). Officially, this should have caused no problems in the Baptist community. However, because of the laxity with which the preachers of the day had preached for so long, baptismal regeneration was widely accepted in Baptist churches. Spurgeon preached rightly, proclaiming that salvation was by grace alone through faith alone in Christ alone. In this, Spurgeon made more enemies. As it turns out, he actually suffered from depression because of how strongly others opposed his ministry.

You have fought a good fight and stood for that which you believe is right in the sight of God.

May God grant you fresh courage to finish your course, and may He have all the glory.

Christopher, the incarnation of the Almighty God is such a subject of vast import, and crucial to our salvation, that the remembrance of it is with me on a daily basis, and often mentioned in my prayer to God, seeing him as the ultimate humble one, the one who though omnipresent becomes a babe dependent on a mother. The one who became a man that he might die in the place of men, bearing their sins, defeating death, rising again, ascending into heaven as the resurrected God-Man.

I don't see anything wrong with any Christian who does this daily. But for any constituted church to decide to make any doctrine a cause of having a special day to celebrate once a year without biblical warrant is, I believe, adding to scripture.

Amen and Amen!
Very well-summarized John. A very serious matter. (Rev. 22:18)

IMO . . who the "chief of sinners" is at this forum seems a bit off topic? ?

That's fine for you to disagree, Christopher.
I figured that's what you meant. You sit on a fence regarding this subject, and from your lofty position you can look down on all of us who are trying to provide a biblical solution concerning christmass, and you see everyone as lesser Christians than yourself, so you write a lengthy discourse censuring us all for the way we post.
The main problem with that, is that no-one sees themselves as guilty of your charges.
That is why I gave you the example of David and his adultery. You would have thought that he would have seen his guilt. What was up with him? He committed adultery, he arranged for her good husband to die in battle, he married her and got in trouble with the Lord. It was not until the prophet said clearly to him, "You are the guilty man!" that he saw his shame and repented.
Hey man, if I am guilty of anything, and you do not warn me about it, you are not showing me much love, are you? There is a cause and effect here. The effect can be a loss of spiritual blessings, and the cause can be joining with the world in celebrating christmass. You see how I love people?
Amen my friend. You have spoken the "truth in love." (Eph. 4:15)

Why would Christians who have His Spirit and His word with the hope of His 2nd coming want to partake of Roman Catholic obligation days?...hmmm...maybe idolatry and because of a do what thou wilt mindset for many...take away the gifts, the parties, the time off,the gaudy decorations...probably would lose most of its appeal.
Oh...and the best news ever: Christ is born is erroneous. The best news ever is that He paid the price for our salvation, is risen and is seated on the right hand of God interceding for His.
sc, Well-said.
Speaking as a former Roman Catholic converted to Christ, why indeed would we want to observe their unscriptural "holy" days of obligation? Why would a professed Christian, whose conscience has been informed by the Scriptures of truth want to?

Sadly "Protestants" have been carried away with the idolatry of the Harlot, and see no problem with displaying a "nativity scene",
and many "Protestant" churchs do likewise,
openly flaunting God's commandment prohibiting same? ? (Ex. 20)
Have they forgotten the Reformation?

But the "true worshippers of God" worship Him in spirit and in truth as Christ has commanded us so to do. (John 4:23)

Inconvenient facts . .
What does the MAS mean in Christmas?

Christ comes from the Greek word Χριστός (Khrīstos), which is a translation of the word from hebrew מָשִׁיחַ (Māšîaḥ). This when translated into English means "Messiah". As for "Mas" this is actually a shortened version of mass. This is derived from the Latin word "missa".
******
The christmass tradition / feast day is the invention of pagan/papal Rome.
The christ of christmass is not the Christ of God but that of popery, the pre-eminent religion of the flesh.

Revelation 18:4
"And I heard another voice from heaven, saying, Come out of her, my people, that ye be not partakers of her sins, and that ye receive not of her plagues."

How encouraging to learn there are some Christians who are not willing to compromise the truth.

After doing his own extensive research regarding “christmass”, 1) Michael Schneider concluded that the Christian must foraske it. He then goes on to address the objections raised at such an idea . .

"But won't I be considered fanatical if I take such a drastic measure?" Probably. That will be a new experience, won't it? No one enjoys being considered a fanatic; if they do, there's something wrong. No one enjoys persecution. But think how little persecution we face as Christians. Isn't it because we are inconsistent? Isn't there something wrong when our beliefs and practice don't disturb the world any more than they do? If we compromise at this point, why wouldn't we compromise at another, and another, and another? We Christians often wonder why we are not persecuted today. The conclusion we often reach is that we would be persecuted if we were faithful. Why doesn't the world hate us? Isn't it because we are not challenging the world's thinking at the most crucial point _ the world's concept of what Christianity is? The world has substituted a folk religion for the gospel.”

This former priest was willing to forsake all . . including family . . to follow Christ. You can be sure he won't be home for "christmass", neither would he be welcome. Such is the cost of discipleship.

Excerpt from the testimony of former Roman Catholic priest Joseph Lulich
Entitled: The Way Made Clear – Joseph Cherucheril

The Way of the Cross is Sacrifice
“Mercy and I are no longer afraid to profess our faith in Jesus Christ before others. By God’s grace we have the courage to deny Roman Catholic teachings, even towards Catholic people and their Catholic priests. God has given us a boldness to proclaim His truth before anyone—and anywhere. Our relatives and friends have abandoned us, and we are not allowed to go to our birthplaces and our relatives’ houses because they are ashamed of us. My family was a priestly family; I was the sixth priest. This made them very proud. I am now regarded as one who has spoiled the Roman Catholic name of my family.”

It should come as no surprise that the professing “church” in the main embraces “christmass”.
Taking their cues from the Roman Catholic “church” they see “christmass” as a opportunity to “grow their church” . . financially that is!

Is Christmas Christian? by: Michael Schneider:

"The Christmas tradition is so firmly entrenched in our society _ and even in our own hearts _ that it will be most difficult to swim against the stream. A word of reproof to professing Christians regarding the Romish feast days of "christmass & easter" from

1) Gospel Minister, Shaun Willcock, from his book entitled:

2) “TRAPPINGS OF POPERY

Excerpt from the chapter entitled:
- Popish Festivals -

“The very names of these festivals give the game away, for those prepared to look behind the facade. For what is Christmas but “Christ-mass,” or the mass of Christ, so named after the central idolatry and blasphemy of Roman Catholic worship: the so-called “sacrifice” of the mass?”

“Christmas and Easter have absolutely nothing to do with the true Christ of God. And yet many millions of Protestants readily observe these Romish festivals, while at the same time condemning Popery. This is to speak with a forked tongue indeed! You cannot condemn Popery, and yet keep the Popish festivals in honour of their false “christ”!”

Former priests recount the very same hostile response they encountered from their family members after renouncing the vain traditions of Roman Catholicism to follow the Lord Jesus Christ in “sincerity and in truth.” here:

Excerpt from the testimony of former Roman Catholic priest Mariano Rughi
entitled: Living Water – Peace with God

Of course it has cost me much to leave my parents, my friends, and everything that was dear to me in Italy, but when I decided to obey the voice of God rather than the voice of the flesh and of the world, all my hardships were transformed into sweetness, especially since I have completed my spiritual journey from a sinful life to a personal knowledge of the Living Christ.

In time I did respond as follows:
“I have sought to use this occasion to speak the "truth (to you) in love" and am grateful for the opportunity your comment presented for me to once again do so by commending God’s Word to you.
"But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ:" Eph. 4:15
I trust you will receive it in the spirit in which it was written.

I cannot commend any of the institutions, ceremonies, doctrines, practices, or traditions associated with Roman Catholicism, without denying my faith . . my creed . . my religion, which is determined solely by the scriptures, and the plan of salvation that is set forth therein.
Therefore I cannot look upon, nor regard this event in Kristin's life as cause for celebration. To do so would be to commend Roman Catholicism, and that I will never do. To do so would be to give my approval and sanction to a false religion, which I have renounced many years ago, since my conversion to Christ, and this I cannot do. This would be insincere on my part, neither would I be "serving Christ in sincerity and in truth" (Joshua 24:14) were I to do so. Furthermore, it would be to deny the truth and the Lord who bought me (II Pet.2:1-2)

Earlier today I wrote . . :

Allow me to enlarge on this matter.

Some years ago my sister-in-law sent us an e-mail as follows:
“Hello again - This time I am going to take a minute and update you on Kristin. August 8th, two years ago, she made her perpetual vows as an Oblate Sister. It was quite a beautiful ceremony followed by a dinner and reception. (It was essentially her wedding -- to God.) There were 25 family members who showed up for the two day event Carl/Jean, Mary/Klaus, Bob/Jean, Lynn/Tom/Mitchel, Michael, Marcus, Kerrigan Quicker, his wife and child, Kimberly Quicker, Bruce/Linda, Jim/Helen/ Michaletz and their four kids, Rick Michaletz, of course Jim and I -and Tom Larsen's sister Julie and husband. We all were able to tour the convent and all were able to meet with the other sisters. “

I did not respond immediately so she sent a f-up e-mail:

“No comment on Kristin's accomplishments. We sure are proud of her!!!!!!!!”

- to be cont.

It is evident that you are disturbing the comfort zone of some posting here.
I commend you for the bold stand you have taken in this discussion.
The doctrine of Separation appears to be lost on many professing Christians today. The broad road is so much easier to travel.
We are estranged from our Catholic family members. They regard us as traitors!

That Christmass is a Roman Catholic feast day . . an invention of Rome that is inextricably linked to the unscriptural, profane, blasphemous and idolatrous Roman Catholic mass there can be no doubt.

John . .
By way of encouragement, I would say you are blessed indeed . .

Matthew 5:11 ]
"Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake."

John 15:19
"If ye were of the world, the world would love his own: but because ye are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you."

Thanks for asking about Ralph. He's doing fairly well, despite his somewhat frail health which can be largely attributed to his age (he turned 80 in July) We look to the Lord each day for all needed help. We have found His grace to be sufficient and that His mercies are truly "new every morning".

In Christ

- Pt.4 cont.
This is the goodly portion of those who have in truth dined on the sumptuous fare of the gospel feast and tasted that the Lord is gracious.
It is the gospel feast which the hymn writer had in view when he penned these words.

"Why was I made to hear thy voice,
And enter while there's room,
When thousands make a wretched choice,
And rather starve than come?"

There but by the grace of God go. June, a Roman Catholic by tradition; made a Christian by God's grace

What Christians need to know about christmas
1) Dec. 6 is the feast day of St. Nicholas (c. 280 – 345 A.D.), one of the most popular saints for Advent and Christmas. St. Nicholas, or St. Nick as he is often called, is the inspiration behind Santa Claus and a big reason we exchange gifts at Christmastime.
St. Nicholas died in 345 and his popularity spread far and wide, particularly to Germany. In German, Nicholas is “Nicklaus,” or “Klaus” for short, and Klaus evolved into Claus. Santa is Italian for holy or saint. Thus, the true meaning of Santa Claus is St. Nicholas, and St. Nick is the patron of Christmas giving because he was so generous throughout his life.

-continued - Pt. 3
His people ever rejoice in the God of their salvation.
Philippians 4:4
"Rejoice in the Lord alway: and again I say, Rejoice."

Their peace is from Christ, who gave it to them. It is a lasting peace.
John 14:27a
“Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you.”

Good food and delicacies feature prominently in the christmass event. But the rich food, along with the wine that so liberally flows at this time of the year cannot be compared to the gospel feast . . the sumptuous fare upon which the Christian dines at all times.
The man of the world . . the “natural man” is very drawn to and taken up with the celebrations and feasting that are so prevalent in this season yet has no taste for the gospel, for that only can the “spiritual man” enjoy. (1 Cor. 2::14)
He has no taste for the gospel feast, of which Christ is the true fare, which only the regenerated soul savours, and that which alone satisfies his soul.

How graphically is this feast described by Isaiah in this lovely passage of God's Word Isaiah 25:6
“And in this mountain shall the LORD of hosts make unto all people a feast of fat things, a feast of wines on the lees, of fat things full of marrow, of wines on the lees well-refined."

- continued - pt. 2

When all the garnishments . . adornments . . are taken down; when the revelry . . frivolity and merriment have ceased; when the lights and trimmings are set aside; when the gloss of the season passes; when the euphoria of the holiday gives way to the routine of day to day living then the “natural man” is left with a void . . an emptiness.
For there is no substance . . no reality . . to the superficial christmass peace and joy that man conjures up and promotes by arousing the sentiments and stirring the emotions. It leaves no lasting impression upon the soul because it is all of the flesh not of the spirit.
By contrast . . the Christian has a true and lasting peace that comes from Christ and an inward joy that no man taketh away from him, and that which the world knows nothing of. Their joy is in the Lord who is their portion.
Psalm 35:9
“And my soul shall be joyful in the LORD: it shall rejoice in his salvation.”
This is the joy of the saved man and no other and that which is not confined to a season.
