Our attitudes can either make us or break us! As we face difficulties or trials in life, we need to have the right attitude, the proper mindset, in order to weather the storms and emerge victorious. Peter reminds his readers that we are at war, involved in a spiritual conflict between good and evil, God and Satan. And we need to be prepared mentally for the fight! We need to arm ourselves with the mind of Christ Himself-- the same attitude Jesus had of humble submission to the Father, willing to give our lives if necessary, knowing that the crown follows the cross! When we have adopted Christ's mindset, sin no longer controls us. A tremendous change takes place in us. We are no longer the same person we were before coming to Christ. But not only does sin no longer control us, we have nothing to fear regarding our future. The judgment awaiting those who reject God holds no fear for us. So then, if in humbly living and serving Christ we would lose our physical lives, heaven awaits us!
