Certain institutions and organizations carry more clout than others. In evaluating those who claim to be experts, ones of the criteria we use is where did they get their education or training. No one dare question the credentials of the original apostles as they were trained for three and one-half years under the Master Himself, Jesus Christ. But what about the apostle Paul? He claims to be an apostle of Jesus Christ with an authoritative message direct from Christ Himself. But where did Paul get his training for ministry? The story of Paul's life reveals that immediately after his baptism, he does not confer with flesh and blood, nor with the apostles in Jerusalem, but rather is trained by Jesus Christ himself in the Arabian wilderness, away from civilization! Jesus Christ trained the one, and once trained, Paul began immediately to proclaim the message of the gospel in the synagogue. His only early contact with the Jerusalem apostles was a social call to get acquainted with them, not to be educated by them. He was taught by the Lord Himself in isolation and ministered in obscurity for the first 14 years of his Christian experience. But we all need to be trained by the Lord through the teaching ministry of the Spirit of God. And we all need a 'Barnabas' to encourage us, to believe in us, to help us in life.
