We come to the final occurrence of walk in the book of Ephesians. The command is literally "see therefore carefully how you walk." The Legacy Standard Bible renders it Therefore look carefully how you walk.
Ephesians 5:15: Therefore be careful how you walk, not as unwise men but as wise, . . .
See (or be careful) is used in a metaphorical sense of discerning something mentally; considering; perceiving; taking heed. It is a command to be always carefully watching how you are walking. The presence of this command, and the way it's worded makes it clear that there is a choice. God expects you to choose between different paths you can take. He will not force you to be wise.
Wise is the word from which comes several English words Philosophy means love of wisdom. The name Sophia is the feminine form of this Greek word. Wise means proper insight into the things of God and living according to them. It's putting knowledge to use in the best way for spiritual results. It's the marriage of intellectual understanding and practical application of what you know. The rest of this section introduces three characteristics of the wise walk.
