Paul elaborates on the basic definition of the word of God he has given, the mystery hidden but now revealed.
Now he identifies God's sovereign purpose: he will that it should be made known to his saints, he chose that each one should know it by participation in all its abounding excellence.
Then, we see God's gospel riches: what God has revealed is the riches of the glory of the mystery, the lavish blessings of Christ, and that among the Gentiles.
Finally, we see God's indwelling Son - Christ in you, the hope of glory. He himself takes up residence in his saints, this is the subjective experience of every true Christian, and it carries heaven with it as a sure consequence, for Christ in us is the hope, or pledge, of glory.
There is no hope of glory apart from Christ. If Christ is not in us - the mark of a true believer - then there is no heaven for us. But here are true riches: should we gain the world without Christ, we are losers; should we gain Christ, and lose the world and all else besides, we still are rich beyond calculation.
Christian: is this sufficient for you? Are you captivated and consumed by the riches of the glory of the gospel mystery? Have you lost sight of Christ in you, the hope of glory?
With him we walk in white We in his image shine, Our robes are robes of glorious light, Our righteousness divine; On all the kings of earth With pity we look down, And claim, in virtue of our birth, A never-fading crown.
