Pride is a terrible thing. King Amaziah of Judah began with great promise, but after a victory over the Edomites he became proud and decided to attack Israel. Despite the Israelite king's attempts to talk him out of it, he went ahead and lost. His pride destroyed him and ruined his kingdom. King Jereboam II of Israel, on the other hand, was very bad, very successful, and very powerful. But it was all the gift of God - the God he sinned against. Thank God that Jesus fulfuls all the promise of his birth, and indeed all the promises of God! He humbled himself for us, and brings us what is better than prosperity, peach with God
