In Acts 20:1-16, there are three important details set forth by Luke that we are in danger of missing if we do not take a careful look. They are (1) the burden of Paul for the spiritual welfare of the churches, particularly Corinth (vv. 1-3), (2) the gospel invasion into the Gentile world and its glorious results (vv. 4-6), and (3) the precision with which God authenticates His servants (vv. 7-12).
There are some details omitted by Luke that are necessary to see the whole picture. We often tend to read words in the text and miss important information because we do not have the historical context of the passage. The Spirit of God wants us to read with discernment and curiosity to understand what is being set out for us. However, we tend to be lazy in spiritual matters. We need to learn to ask questions in order to ascertain details. We are to “study” to show ourselves approved unto God.
