In fact, studying the doctrine of regeneration helps to clarify the issue (1) Regeneration means to be born again (2) It is directly referred to twice in the Bible • In Matthew 19:28, regeneration refers to a period of time when the earth will in effect be born again and Jesus will sit upon the throne in Jerusalem. • In Titus 3:5, regeneration refers to the new birth that is a part of eternal salvation. • "Generation" can be defined as producing something; the act of begetting; procreation. Thus, RE-generation would be the act of procreating again. • Titus 3:5 additionally refutes the teaching that being "born again" applies only to the nation of Israel. Believers are washed in the blood by the "washing of regeneration." Although the word regeneration is used only once in reference to salvation, the idea of being born again or born of God is found several more times in the Bible (John 3:3-8; John 1:12-13; 1Corinthians 4:15; Galatians 4:29; Philemon 1:10; James 1:18; 1Peter 1:3, 23-25; 1John 5:1). Being "born again" does not start in John chapter 3 but begins at the very beginning of John's message. • Begotten—"of get. Procreated; generated Galatians 4:29 But as then he that was born after the flesh persecuted him that was born after the Spirit, even so it is now. Believers are "born after the Spirit" and become babes in Christ.
