John 1:28 These things were done in Bethabara beyond Jordan, where John was baptizing. 29 The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world. John is baptizing with water but does NOT say, "Behold the water that taketh away the sin of the world." Take note that this event takes place before the cross. Only one person can take away sin—before or after the cross—that is the holy, perfect, sinless, sacrificial Son of God. Jesus did not come to earth to heal sickness although He could heal everyone.
Christ came to earth to heal the soul, but no one can outwardly and immediately witness a healed soul. Consider the man with palsy in Luke chapter 5.
Christ healed the man with palsy so that the world would recognize that Christ is God since only God can forgive sins. Luke 5:23 Whether is easier, to say, Thy sins be forgiven thee; or to say, Rise up and walk? 24 But that ye may know that the Son of man hath power upon earth to forgive sins, (he said unto the sick of the palsy,) I say unto thee, Arise, and take up thy couch, and go into thine house. 25 And immediately he rose up before them, and took up that whereon he lay, and departed to his own house, glorifying God. It is important to understand the implications of what was taking place. Jesus Christ saw the man's faith and forgave his sins based on His faith. The Pharisees rightfully considered this a blasphemous act unless Jesus was who He said He was—the Son of God manifested in human flesh. Because no one could see the act of forgiving sins, Jesus physically healed that man. They would witness the miracle of physical healing. The Bible does not
