A. Jesus Gave the Sign of the Temple (John 2:18-22). a. The Jews asked for a sign (John 2:18) which was the practice of the Jews (1Corinthians 1:22) although it was a practice rebuked by the Lord.
1 Corinthians 1:22 For the Jews require a sign, and the Greeks seek after wisdom: 1 Corinthians 14:22 Wherefore tongues are for a sign, not to them that believe, but to them that believe not: but prophesying serveth not for them that believe not, but for them which believe. 2 Corinthians 5:7 (For we walk by faith, not by sight:) b. Matthew 12:38 Then certain of the scribes and of the Pharisees answered, saying, Master, we would see a sign from thee. 39 But he answered and said unto them, An evil and adulterous generation seeketh after a sign; and there shall no sign be given to it, but the sign of the prophet Jonas: c. As demonstration of this last point, the Jews seek for a sign from Jesus (John 6:30)
John 6:30 They said therefore unto him, What sign shewest thou then, that we may see, and believe thee? what dost thou work? • This is really amazing and shows that people are never satisfied because their request for a sign comes immediately after they witnessed Christ feed the five thousand (John 6:1-13). Those seeking for signs are never satisfied.
