Theme: Rejoice, for the Lord fulfills His promise. In vv. 1-2, we see the Lord gives the promised son. This is ultimately fulfilled in the coming of the promised Son, Jesus, (Matt 1:18-23). In vv. 3-5, we see Abraham's obedience in taking the sign of the covenant, which was circumcision, and Joseph obeys the Lord by taking Mary as his wife (Matthew 1:24-25). In vv. 6-7, Sarah marvels at God's goodness, and many years later, we read how Mary also marveled at God's goodness (Luke 1:46-56). As we meditate on these passages, we see the certainty of God's promises, the importance of trusting Jesus to take away our sins, and that we too should spend time marveling at the wonder of God's cosmic plan of redemption! |
