Christian Practice, the Fruit of Truly Gracious Affections "Gracious & holy affections have their exercise & fruit in Christian practice."
Intro: Review
Doctrine: Christian practice implies: (1) That we live our lives in this world according to the holy standard of God's Word (Jn 15:14, 1Jn 3:2-3,7-8, 1Cor 6:9-10, Gal 5:19-21, Mt 5:29-30, 25:42)
(2) That we make this holy living our main concern of our life, totally devoting ourselves to it with earnestness & diligence (Mt 6:24, 2Tim 2:3, 1Tim 6:12, Heb 6:11-12).
(3) That we persevere in our holy living through all trials & changes right to the end of our life (Jn 8:31-32, Ps 66:10-12, Ja 1:12, etc.)
Application:
Christian Practice (a holy life) is the great distinguishing sign of true saving grace: 1. To others Mt 7:16-24, cf Mt 12:33, Jn 14:21, Ja 2:14
2. To our own consciences 1Jn 2:2-5, cf 1Jn 3:18-19, Gal 6:4, Eph 2:8-10
Conclusion "Thus the light of Christians would so shine before men, that others, seeing their good works, would glorify our father which is in heaven!" |
