The Bible says the word preached didn't prosper because they didn't have faith. I don't believe in super-prosperity for every believer but I DO believe that Jesus gave us a great salvation. People talking against what they call the "health and wealth" gospel don't know what it's like to be truly sick and poor. I believe the devil kills steals and destroys and that Jesus saved to uttermost and brought us abundant spiritual and physical life. I have tithed and believed that Jesus would bless us and miracles started happening in my life. My health improved. My husband got a $8000 raise in one year. My son's developmental delay started going away. In addition, I began praying for people who had homosexual issues and addiction issues and many were strengthened and healed. I understand that there is suffering in the world and that God is not the God of mammon. But I believe we glorify God when prayers are answered. I could never turn back to a weak pale Galilean savior taught by many churches, one who didn't destroy the power over demons, sickness, poverty. God has given us health, blessings, authority, and abundant life. The bitter believer indulged in magical thinking not true faith...which is hard to develop in a world of doubtfilled sermons that offend those trying to trust God.
