Neil, I think Matthew 24:20 refers to the Great Tirbulation (God's dealing with the nation of Israel- "the time of Jacob's trouble" - Jer.30:7), after the rapture of the church, which ends the Church Age in which we now live. Matt. 24:13 tells us that the Gospel of the kingdom is being preached, not the Gospel of the grace of God (Acts 20:24). Matt.24:19 says, "those days," which is not today. Those days Old Testament worship with all ceremonies (including the oblation Dan. 9:27) will be offered until antichrist puts stop to it. Matthew 24 is clearly a warning to the Jew in the land of Palestine, according to Matthew 20:16. Do they keep sabbath over there these days? Anyways, I believe that they will in "those days" and a flight will be hard to find on the sabbath. But enough of this nonsense of the sabbath people. After "those days" (Matt. 24:29), then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven: and then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn, and they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory" (Matt. 24:30).(Col 2:16-17)- "Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days: Which are a shadow of things to come; but the body is of Christ." |
