Let it never be said, despite the fact I'm only a teen, that I was afraid to tackle a subject dead on.
It's no secret of the impact John Piper has had on my life and I remember a sermon he preached where he said "Christ is better than anything this world can offer! Why do I bot commit adultery with Noel (his wife)? Because Christ is better!" The wording may be off but you get the picture right? So what if we "evangelicals" would shut up about these really dumb topics and start teaching the stuff tgat matters? Like the gospel! Living out the GC! Maybe we could teach them to see & savor Jesus Christ! To see Him as supreme & LOVE IT! But no! We (Note; I'm not talking about you guys) sit here and argue wether or not tattoes are a sun! We have entire books devoted to this subject! But NOBODY wants to talk about the gospel! Why can't we have a conference devoted to exploring grace instead of these LONG discussions about building new churches!
Thanks for patiently letting me rant, my point is, we've forgotten what the gospel is, that's why these young guys are doing this.

Umm, yeah, about that Unprofitable (can I call you US?) I've been to Pleasant Hill several times and I LOVED it! Me and Pastor Rackely shared a love for John MacArthur & Southern Gospel. But my Dad is picky (he even calls himself picky) and he said that Pastor Rackley was too old, the congregation wasn't growing, so we left.
Another thing, my Dad is NOT Reformed. He's more along the lines of a Baptist. My Dad did check out some Reformed church around here, but the (former) Pastor got caught in a (ahem) affair of questionable ethics, so he refuses to go there just because of that.
I appreciate you trying to help, I really do, but my Dad is not going to go to ANY church around here, period. I talked with him about this just the other week. It's not happening. But I'm turning 16 March 11, and I'm just about to go and earn my license, and when I do, I'm going to Pleasant Hill, but until then, I'm not going anywhere. But thanks for trying.

Jim Lincoln, do your homework before you make a statement like that. (My homework was I read "Original Intent" by David Barton, good book) The famous "seperation of church & state" is NOT in the Constitution! That was actually found in a PRIVATE letter by Thomas Jefferson! The Constitution DOES say (and I quote from Amendment #1) "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion or prohibiting the free exercise thereof..." I hope I didn't come across as proud or presumptuous, if I did I humbly apologize.

I ordered A. W. Pinks "The Attributes of God" off Chapel Hill Library about 2 weeks before last Christmas. It still hasn't come in, is that average?
(Hey GS, you like Spurgeon too?! I absolutely LOVE reading Charles Spurgeon! Have you ever read "The Gospel Focus of Charles Spurgeon" by Steve Lawson? I absolutely loved reading every page!)

Dopey; to answer your question, you can be an AMAZING Christian and not agree with John Calvin. For instance my Dad, wisest man EVER, he doesn't FULLY agree with the Reformed view. Neither did C. S. Lewis. John Wesley didn't think predestination was Biblical. Does that help?
CAB; I never said these Pastors were saved, did I? And please explain to me how on earth you believe you can lose your salvation? I mean, that's nightmarish.

OK Mr. Frank (I'm resisting the temptation to call you dude) let me see just 2 weeks ago (I need to make something clear, my Dad tells me this stuff, I don't go looking for this junk) a pastor out here in Douglasville (where I live) a Pastor got kicked out for a questionable past (I'm trying to talk clean)
Stephen Ferrick, megachurch pastor, is under investigation for embezzlement. (Then again that's not what we were talking about)
2 months ago, Pastor rapes a 16 year old.
3 months ago Pastor caught in adulterous affair.
And do I really need to go over the Charismatics shady acts? (I take back what I said about Baptists, typically it's a charismatic, my apologies)
No I'm not a RC. I'm Reformed. I was pretty sure I'm the most obnoxious Reformer here.

Jim Lincoln, I understand I'm very young, I understand I have no right to teach others, especially those older than me. But, almost every single day I hear a story about a Pastor (typically Baptist) who is involved in a (ahem) vulgar affair with a girl (typically my age) or even a young child. I'm just not sure we can single out the RC priests when supposedly "evangelical" pastors are just as bad.
(Just to clear this up, I'm not defending RC's, and neither am I defending John Y)
