It depends on your scriptural understanding of xmas. You might have read much on the subject but I think A W Pink on 'xmas' is very good if you haven't seen it and it has a scripture at the begining. You say you already have some doubts, that alone would prevent me from being involved-a troubled conscience.
There are another 300 plus days to preach the gospel but that said I can understand why ministers who have nothing to do with xmas and do not exchange gifts etc would still preach on Christ's birth during this time of year whilst giving no credence to the Saviour being born on December 25th! Just to refute the false christ-mass and use the opportunity to preach the TRUE CHRIST.
If you are convinced that xmas is wrong tell your church friends and they will appreciate your honesty, tell them you still want to hand out gospel tracts before and after the carol singing, but you do not want to be part of the singing!
Try the Pink tract and let me know what you think of such as it would be a help to see how christians view such.
