Inspired Sermon ! This is a wonderfully rich sermon. There are so many strands of God's wisdom here that have been revealed. It is inspiring reminding us that there is "one important thing". Well worth hearing more than once!!
Great Sermon! I wish I had heard this years ago! I have heard about being a christian parent before, but this really is a tremendous eye opener for any parent. It is so easy to get lulled into the ways of the world as we would all like to "have the best" for our children and it reminds us where our focus must be! Thank you!
Great Sermon and very thought provoking! Your observations about the names of the patriarchs is indeed very interesting. The fact that Methusaleh is the oldest person in the Bible is surely meant to draw our attention to “His (Jesus) death shall bring” and what God was planning to do next. Noah was the sole survivor as God washed away the sin of the world. It clearly pointed to the future when “His (Jesus) death shall bring”. Jesus is the way of washing away sins without the need for another flood, as God promised! Do you think that the parting of the Red Sea and the subsequent washing away of Pharaoh’s army was meant to be a further indication or reminder that God would “wash away” the sinners. I can’t help but think that God is telling us that the covenant people were separated from the worldly Egyptian’s where a man (Pharoah) was “god”, just as Jesus will separate us from this world! Pharaoh was just acting like the devil trying to thwart God’s people in practising their worship (eg Moses wasn’t allowed to go to the wilderness to worship). I couldn’t help but think you purposefully left the sermon hanging, either to get people to go to the next instalment or to encourage them to think. Enoch did not die (raptured) implies that God’s teaching shall bless us to an end! How amazing!
The depiction of Pullman's work is simply a pale imitation of christian works that have come before them and merely show a lack of real imagination. Satan has always been trying to pervert the ways of God. This is no different.
Not surprisingly, the title says a lot about the story. A real compass responds to a magnetic field to guide people. Here we have a gold compass, which doesn't respond to anything. Instead people with the "lust of the eyes" are only too willing to chase after this false thing and will wonder why and where it has "lead them" when they finally reach their destination! It is typical of atheistic literature.
Great Sermon! Wonderful sermon as usual. The title is intriguing! When has gold ever "moved" to give anyone any bearings to help them move! I think it really is symptomatic of "man" that the mention of gold is enough to make people seek it. But then again people would rather move to their own course than have it guided by Almighty God! Jesus will remain my compass!
