Peter ends his address to the Jews who had witnessed the astounding miracle of the disabled man being healed. He continues to commend Jesus of Nazareth to them as their Messiah, Lord and Judge.
In his prophetic role, Moses had told of a greater prophet to come, and by revelation Peter teaches that Jesus was meant. He was like Moses, but was clearly superior in his person, ministry and by the better covenant he mediated.
His ministry introduced a new era in the dealings of God with man, and he declared forgiveness of sins through his name, a justification based on faith in him and not law-keeping.
At the return of our Great Prophet, the times of refreshing he ushered in will be revealed in all its fulness. However, he will exercise the role of judge at the last day, and just as Moses had said, all who in life did not obey the voice of The Prophet will be destroyed. |
