The series that we are beginning today will take you through four marks of someone we believe who lives a life of a true disciple and is following Jesus. Why do we call it "The Cross Marks the Spot"? Because, without question the shadow of the cross looms over the entire New Testament. What are the marks of a true disciple and follower of Jesus? We believe they are found in the answer to four questions we are going to be asking over the next four weeks. If you were to die today where would you spend Eternity? ''Every person born in America by law is given a birth credential. When you are a baby that may not seem like a big deal, but without that document you cannot get a social security card, a driver's license, a marriage license, a passport, Medicaid, Medicare, etc. Birth credentials is the process by which a child's birth is recorded in the civil register by the government authority. It gives that child legal recognition to all the other legal rights that any citizen should have. There is another birth credential far more important than a physical one and that is a spiritual one, because without a spiritual birth credential you cannot have a relationship with God. You cannot get into His kingdom. You cannot be a part of His family. You can never know Him as your Father, and He will never know you as His child. Jesus is interviewed by Nicodemus about, how to be born again, to have eternal credentials for life. You can always go back to where the Cross Marks the Spot and find your birth credentials.
