The locusts have started to ravage the country. The culmination of their onslaught will be so devastating, it will be called The Day of the Lord. However, as Joel goes further in describing the repentance required by God, he holds out God's promise of restoration. The high point of this restoration is the people's ability to worship God fully again. Like the Judahites, God's people today can be sure that upon our repentance he will recompense us for lost goods, family, and even time itself, restoring to us the very years the locust has eaten. Not only so, but the Lord has a habit of blessing with abundance, and the excess of his blessings will be evidenced by breaking down the barriers to worship and allowing us to once again bring the sacrifice of our whole selves to his holy temple as sweet offerings.
