We Preach Christ

“The Jews require a sign, and the Greeks seek after wisdom; but WE PREACH CHRIST CRUCIFIED” (I Cor. 1:22-23).

Times have changed but men have not. Most religionists still seek signs, tongues, feelings, and experiences like the religious Jews. The other camp of religionists still seek wisdom, intellectualism, and philosophy like the worldly wisdom of the Greeks.

But God’s preachers PREACH CHRIST. They know Christ, love Christ, and desire that others know and love Him too. Such a vast, infinite, and heavenly gospel can never be exhausted; so, we preach Christ today and tomorrow, as our first and last message, and as the full sum of our theology. “For I determined not to know any thing among you, save Jesus Christ, and him crucified” (1 Cor. 2:2).

OH, TO GRACE

In the 1700’s, Robert Robinson wrote these words, “He to rescue me from danger interposed His precious blood.”

Interposed means go between; an intercession purposely applied.

The salvation of the Lord’s people is the same no matter the century. We were in danger, He looked upon those He chose, without asking anyone’s permission He interposed the precious blood of Christ in a gracious, unearned act of love, rescuing us from danger!

If that blood has been interposed on you, the response will be, “Oh to Grace, how great a debtor daily I am constrained to be.”

“He brought me up also out of an horrible pit, out of the miry clay, and set my feet upon a rock, and established my goings.” (Psalm 40:2).

By doing this for us God created in us a new spirit of compassion toward sinners yet in the pit. It would be absurd to disdainfully look down upon them from above the pit as if we are better or made ourselves to differ. Knowing we could not bring our own selves up out of the pit, it would be mockery to speak down to them or to remotely give them the impression that they have ability to deliver themselves.

Instead, Christ’s love constrains us to give God our Father and his Son all the glory. We beseech them to repent toward God but we do so by telling them the good news of how God alone delivered us, through the righteousness of his Son alone and the power of the Holy Spirit alone. We beseech them to believe on Christ, but we do so begging God to send the Spirit, bring them out and set their feet on Christ and establish their goings.

This Most Important and Vital Question

“How shall we escape, if we neglect so great salvation; which at the first began to be spoken by the Lord, and was confirmed unto us by them that heard him (Heb. 2:3)?

How shall we escape the wrath and judgment of God if we neglect, disregard or make light of the only “so great salvation” revealed in Christ? There is no other Saviour, there is no other salvation but the Lord’s so great salvation given in Christ (Acts 4:12; 1 Cor. 3:11).

Why is this salvation called so great? Everything God does and everything that God is; is great! Because He is so great, so almighty, so vast, so glorious and so powerful; His salvation is also great and glorious (1 Cor. 1:30-31, Rev. 19:6). Salvation is of the Lord!

It is so great salvation because the Lord is the eternal author of it (Heb. 5:8-9, Heb. 12:2, Rev. 13:8).

It is so great because of the wisdom of it, because it reveals how God can be just and the justifier of the ungodly; how He can be a just God and Saviour (Isa. 45:22; Rom. 3:25-26; 1 Cor. 1:21-24).

It is so great because of the cost of it, Christ’s precious blood (Acts 20:28, 1 Peter 1:18-20, Heb. 9:11-12).

It is so great because of the power and freeness of it (Rom. 1:16, Rom. 3:24, Rom. 8:32).

It is so great salvation because of the completeness and perfection of it (John 1:16, John 19:30, Col. 2:9-10,).

It is so great salvation because it is given to save and redeem great sinners, the worst and chief of sinners (Matt. 9:13, 1 Tim. 1:15).
