A. N. Other,
What are “the problem of Romans 13” in your view? The problem is that the gov doesn’t conform to Romans 13 or the Westminster Confession.

I can tell you now that I do pray for all my MPs.

If you expect Dr P to be pointing them to the Lord I wouldn’t be so sure. He is being reduced to their level. He is not elevating them to his

"God, the supreme Lord and King of all the world, hat ordained civil magistrates to be under him over the people, for his own glory, and for the public good; and, to this end, hath armed them with the power of the sword, for the defence and encouragement of them that are good and for the punishment of evil-doers."

Westminster Confession Chapter 23 Paragraph 1.

Terrible liberals those Westminster Divines weren't they?

"I rejoice that John Greer and others have not used the Lord's Day to preach on the political situation in the UK or Northern Ireland."

So you don't belive that a Christian minister has a duty to preach on this subject?

Funny John Greer and others didn't take that view when they signed a statment in 1998 attcking SF/IRA in gov on Scriptural grounds.

Excuse me but I do. My argument is that this government doesn't conform to Romans 13.

Let me repent the question: Where were people like you in 1998? Why didn't you point out to our church that we were not accepting Romans 13 then?

Once you answer that I will deal with the other issues.

“God wrote...
Rom 13:1 Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is *NO* power but of God: the powers that be are *ORDAINED* of God."
Is this true or not in your book?”

Yes. But if you apply that to all governments you would argue that it would have been wrong to oppose Hitler. After all, “there is *NO* power but of God: the powers that be are *ORDAINED* of God”.

Secondly, Dr P would have been wrong to oppose the 1998 Agreement. After all it was approved by “the higher powers” and “there is *NO* power but of God” i.e. they were right to release the prisoners.

I stand by my comment which is in total agreement with the statement written by our moderator and signed by our ministers.

Strangely those who had a problem with that interpretation of Romans 13:3 were quite in 1998.

Consider the following:
1. Can it be right for you to say in your church and in numerous other places that you will never do something and then go it (consider 1 John 2:21)?
2. Can it be right to make a speech about the victims of violence and be in such a position that you feel unable to say who made those people victims?
3. Can it be right to share power with murderers (Gerry Kelly will work in Doc’s office and has a murder conviction http://en.wikipedia.org/wik

As an act of judgment God saw to it that the Romans were put in charge of Israel.
1. Do you accept that this government by terrorists and unequally yoked believers is likewise a judgment from God?
2. Could you site the Biblical support for this agreement? God says that murderers should be in their grave and yet Doc has a convicted murderer in his office.

It was indeed a “nice” statement which our church released in 1998. Would to God the man who wrote it had remained faithful to it.

Mr Wilson,
“that it was not the decision of Dr Paisley to be called to be first Minister”
Yes it was. An IRA leader would not be joint PM of N.I. without his agreement.

“only through God himself who chose this great Man of God to be his Servant in Poltics”
God did not tell anyone to serve Him by breaking His Word (Romans 13:3).

“and preaching the faithful word of God”
Like when he wrote a statement which was signed by most if not all Free P ministers which said that it was “unscriptural, unethical and immoral … to share power with those who have supported and advocated violence” or said in the Revivalist “When my electorate voted for me they voted for a covenant that we would not sit down today or tomorrow or any other time with SF/IRA full stop.”

“It is time for us all who are true Christians to move forward to peace in N.Ireland.”
It is time for us to stand up and say this is wrong.

“I know because i was brought up in the trubles years and years ago”
I know because I live here and have seen the Troubles first hand too. Putting those who caused the Troubles in gov is NOT God’s will.

"Nor can we forget those who continue to bear the scars of suffering and whose bodies have been robbed of sight, robbed of hearing, robbed of limbs."

(But I won't remind people that the gangster I have just gone into government with was a senior figure in the organization that caused much of that death and suffering)
