Dr Paisley’s comments on Sunday morning 20th January 2008 “A Final Settlement of All Things” give a necessary ‘on the record’ response to so many of the obscene allegations that have been levelled against him. Regrettably many people have accepted without any proof the lies which have been told by professing Christians supported only by sensationalised reports in newspapers. Perhaps the act of vandalism upon Rev Ron Johnstone’s church in Armagh at the weekend by such professing Christians will give those who are at a distance some indication of the spirit in which many of our enemies have acted and spoken. May the LORD bless Brother Jonstone in his role as the new Moderator.

Pete, I HEARD him make the statement last week so don’t tell me he didn’t say it. Bottom line Pete, we have a system of government under presbytery based on New Testament teaching. It has been betrayed by some who have breached their vow of confidentially but you’re happy to rely upon them as sources?

Our pastor is and remains a man of God and he continues to be held in great affection by many thousands of Christians across Ulster and in particular by his own congregation. I’m glad to say that I have several friends on both sides of this debate. While they won’t all agree with my point of view I am delighted that none of them share your distorted view. A Christian should mimic Christ Himself, full of grace and truth. Your comments lack both grace and truth.

You haven’t even given your full name, you haven’t mentioned if you are a Free Presbyterian or which congregation you are in membership of. If you are convinced of what you say then show the courage of your convictions and identify yourself properly. If your unnamed Ulster sources really exist then why do they remain anonymous if they have nothing to hide.

If you are genuinely convinced of what you say you are welcome to contact me on my email link. Your insulting remarks are not worthy of further comment.

Pete, Presbytery is a private meeting and all elders and ministers take a vow not to disclose the details of their meetings. Are you trying to tell me that your source is someone who has broken that vow? Surely a dishonest man is not someone to trust.

Every reply you make contains insults against the members of Martyrs. I’ve been a member of the Martyrs congregation for some years and I thank God for fellowship with some of the best Christian people I have ever met. You seem very out of touch with reality. Perhaps you should consider the calibre of Free Presbyterian ministers who disagree with your point of view. You won’t bend the facts no matter how you try to spin it. Dr Paisley has made a public statement within the last week confirming that he has refused to comply with requests for him to grant money to the cause of Sodomites. The public campaign against him by other Christians has been entirely vile.

I acknowledge that there are strongly differing views within our church about recent political events, but if you can’t present a reasonable point of view with a sense of compassion and love towards fellow Christians then you don’t deserve any further response.

Pete, you need to consider carefully what you say. NO disciplinary action was taken against anyone at the Presbytery meeting. Read the statement. You might have your own opinion about what you would like to have happen, but God has not put you in the position of our elders. You demonstrate a total ignorance of the facts. Your cheap comments insulting the members of Martyrs are pathetic and un-Christ-like. I’m glad people like you oppose what I believe. You do more damage to your own cause with your own contributions than I could ever do. Whatever little credibility your arguments might have had is lost. Rumours are dangerous. The statement read by Rev Johnstone represents the Presbytery. If you think that the local press is a reliable source of information then you are even more gullible than you have sounded up to now. You seem to have a lot of bitterness.

‘Undiscerning’ Pete from USA? Thanks for the advice. God used Dr Paisley to establish our church in Ulster. There is no doubt that the congregation in Martyrs is very small compared with the days when the church was opened. Today there are around sixty congregations in Ulster and a long established work overseas. Within 30 minutes drive of where I live I can get to ten other Free Presbyterian churches. (I wonder if you’re discerning what happened to the big crowd.) Unfortunately today in ungodly Ulster many sound Bible preaching churches struggle to hold a crowd. A discerning man might appreciate that this is neither a reflection on the message of the Gospel or the preacher. I have been to a few of the Free Presbyterian churches in North America and I can’t recall too many with 130 in their congregation. Is this how discerning Pete measures God’s blessing? From my previous comment you also conclude that I don’t know my Bible! I’m happy to leave the LORD to judge us both in that matter. Perhaps the people reading this who know you or I will draw their own conclusions, that is if they are as discerning as you brother.

This sermon followed a week of prayer in Martyrs Memorial during which Dr Paisley delivered several outstanding messages from God’s Word. On the Friday of that week (the day Presbytery met) a man was saved following the weekly open-air service at Belfast City Hall where both Dr Paisley and Rev Kyle Paisley preached. Those (American’s or otherwise) who are seeking clarity about Ulster politics should take note of the fact that GOD is still blessing this man's ministry and using him to win the lost to Christ. Note also that Dr McCrea has just completed a Gospel tent mission during which several souls where won for Christ).

I was at the services in Martyrs on Sunday and there is no doubt that the preacher knew the anointing of God as he heralded forth the truth. Not many 81 year olds preach like him. Sunday’s messages will both inspire and encourage all those who have a listening ear. They will challenge every believer to look afresh to Christ finding in Him true joy and a peace that passeth all understanding.
