I have to agree a social gospel is not the Gospel. There are plenty of secular examples of African Americans overcoming the strings of racism and self-destructive behavior if you want to get the "we shall overcome message across." The Methodist Church has done a great deal for African Americans but have been weak on teaching what John Wesley would have taught and that is Faith and belief in Jesus Christ is what really matters.
