The heading of this article is taken from Romans 3:4, “Let God be true but every man a liar.” The meaning is “let the Word of God stand, don’t tamper with it or wrest it.” Let me give an example or two. In Jonah 2:9, the old prophet makes a proclamation, “Salvation is of the LORD.” Jonah was in the belly of the whale, deep in the bottom of the sea, simply put, “If I am to get out of this mess my only hope is divine deliverance.” He did not proclaim, “salvation is partly of the LORD and the rest is up to me.” The second example is from Eph. 2:8-9, “For by grace are you saved through faith; and that not of yourself: it is the gift of God: not of works, lest any man should boast.” The subject of salvation as to whom, and how it is effected can be made no clearer than what it is in this text. God says that salvation is by grace, not a mixture of His work and man’s work, but entirely His. Therefore, “Let God be true but every man a liar.” Concerning the issue of salvation the Word of God contradicts a vast number of modern religious ideas. Many believe that Christ died equally for all men. Jesus Christ Himself said in John 10:15, “I lay down my life for My sheep.” In Eph.5:25 we read that “Christ loved the Church and gave Himself for IT.” In Matt.1:21 we are told that Jesus “shall save HIS PEOPLE from their sins.” Therefore, “Let God be true but every man a liar.” Men say that all men can believe if they will, Jesus said, “But they believe not, because they are not of My sheep” (John 10:26). The inspired Word of God in Acts 13:48 says, “As many as were ordained to eternal life believed.” Modern religion says all men could come to Christ if they would. Jesus said, “No man can come to Me except My Father draw him” (John 6:44). They say that men either come to God or refuse to come to God of their own will; but the Word of God says, “God’s people shall be willing in the day of His power” (Ps.110:3). They say that men are rejected of God because they will not come to Christ, but Christ said, “All that the Father giveth ME shall COME TO Me” (John 6:37). Oh that men would “let God be true but every man a liar.” Many have the idea that God “must give all a chance to be saved.” Christ Jesus the LORD of ALL men said to His disciples, “To you it is given to know the mysteries of the Kingdom, but to them it is not given” (Matt.13:11). He also said, “Many are called, but few are chosen.” They say, many will die and go to hell for whom Christ died, but Jesus said, “Of all, which the Father hath given me, I should lose nothing” (John 6:39). Many say that salvation depends on man’s willingness to believe on and receive Jesus as their Savior.” The Bible says, “But as many as received Him, to them gave He power to become the sons of God, even to them that believed on His name: which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God” (John 1:12-13). Some insist that Christ died for all men without exception, but Jesus insisted, “I am the Good Shepherd; the Good Shepherd giveth His life for the sheep” (John 10:11). There are those who insist that a person may lose their salvation. Jesus Christ said concerning His people, “I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of My hand” (John 10:28). If you will observe the article with care you will note that throughout I have not said one word about what I believe or don’t believe. I have stated only what men say and established what the Bible declares in opposition to their misguided statements. Always remember, “Let God be true but every man a liar.”
