Rule of Law. You hear that phrase a lot. I found over 3/4 of a million occurrences of that phrase in newspaper.com. The traditional understanding refers to a society ruled by the rule of the WRITTEN law, passed by the legislative bodies representing the people, and at one time highly influenced by divine moral law. The principle is to protect us from the capricious government leaders who are a law unto themselves. We do not have kings. The law is king in our system of government. For example, a 1772 Maryland newspaper wrote of a contract not based "upon any fixed rule of law, but on the arbitrary will of ...man." Many times I read of the "established" or "fixed" rule of law. We also are to be protected by the equal application of law. Yet the liberal meaning of "rule of law" is that the executive or judicial branch of government is not bound by the actual TEXT of constitutional or statutory law but whatever they SAY is the law. The judicial branch has a stronger justification for declaring a new interpretation of law than the executive branch. Our system of government depends of the consent of the governed. I suggest we watch out for how our leaders are using the phrase "rule of law." Isa. 8:20 has had a major influence on Christian and western thought, "To the law and to the testimony! If they do not speak according to this word, it is because there is no light in them."
Secular "progressives" have been tearing down the moral foundation of civil society, the concept of absolute, divine truth, especially the last 50 years. Instead, we are reverting to the biblical days of the Judges when "everyone did what was right in his own eyes." Absolute, divine truth is spoken of in Romans 1:18, "For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who suppress the truth in unrighteousness." Rom. 1:25, "who exchanged the truth of God for the lie...." Rom. 2:2, "But we know that the judgment of God is according to truth against those who practice such things." Rom. 2:8, "but to those who are self-seeking and do not obey the truth...indignation and wrath." Such absolute, divine truth was passed down from generation to generation in our churches, our homes, and even in our schools. The sexual revolution has destroyed most homes and government policy enables sexual immorality and out of wedlock births. Hosea 8:7 says, "They sow the wind, and reap the whirlwind." There can be revival and healing in the land when God's people pray and proclaim the Truth of God's Word. By the way, justice and truth go hand in hand, "For all His ways are justice, A God of truth..." (Deut. 32:4). "No one calls for justice, Nor does any plead for truth" (Isa. 59:4). "Justice is turned back... For truth is fallen in the street" (Isa. 59:14). (Note the Hebrew poetic parallelism). Wake up America!
