This can be easily attested and perceived in opera music, rock and roll, and negro spirituals for instance. So, it is with the modern hymn. This is the reason that makes this trend not advisable.

The sanitised versions of the ‘modern hymns’ however, still aim toward the 'good-feeling factor' as CCM does. The music, though not necessary the lyrics, point to self, man and his feelings rather than to God's attributes, creating obvious conflict with the meaning of the words.
Most of the sanitized tunes are feeble in character because when destitute of the real force of the style in which they were conceived in, they become shapeless, boneless, without body mass, though perhaps still are attractive and often soothing and appealing. Proof of this is that often they need the complicated accompaniments to make them worth listening or signing. In contrast a good tune can be sung with effect without any instrumental arrangements.
In some cases, as ‘In Christ alone’ the tunes are self-comforting, -tunes that ‘one signs to himself’ for emotional comfort rather than for intellectual and spiritual thrill or challenge.
The tunes of old hymns in contrast are characterized by purpose, direction, conviction, force, strength, and power, combining at the same time with wonder, dignity, respect, inner peaceable reassurance and delight in God.

“ Thank you ” Regretfully there is a lack of spiritual discernment about the issue. Evangelical circles using CCM often fail to perceive the contradictory messages of tunes and lyrics. The 'good-feeling' factor common in the world, prevails, and feeds the carnal appetites, leading to non-sanctified choices.
In reality the trend steams from self-will, self-gratification and personal rebellion.

“ Great Sermon! ” BLESSED to have a pastor like DR. GARY REIMERS speak on this subject!!!! He has a wonderful STRENGTH OF CHARACTER, sensitivity to the SPIRIT, kind and gentle DISPOSITION, and intellectual student's heart to present these fabulous messages on the music and worship that pleases GOD. As a Ph.D. and Professor who values GOD's smile more than men's, it is refreshing to hear him speak like an OASIS in a desert of compromise. Oh, that GOD would revive HIS people and HIS pastors hearts again before this nation is destroyed. To hear the SPIRIT is the key to all of these messages. JESUS said HIS lambs hear HIS voice. I John says that the world doesn't hear us, but the children of GOD do - this is how we can discern the spirit of truth and the spirit of error. Kirk Cameron, Dr. D. James Kennedy, and Dr. Bob Jones all had one thing in common. They all feel that most in the church are not true converts (and that includes pastors I'm sure). Oh that pastors and people in churches were truly converted and could hear the SPIRIT's voice! Thank GOD for Dr. Reimers!!!
