“ Great Sermon! ” In contrast to the negative comment posted above, I am in complete agreement with pastor Wells. It’s plain that he is saying justice, as we know it in the world would, after being found guilty of living a life of lawlessness, could only be fair and just if we were sentenced to death and eternity in the fiery pits of hell. Even Paul states he doesn't want justice when he proclaims, "What a wretched man I am! Who will rescue me from this body of death? Thanks be to God-Through Jesus Christ our Lord!" But as the mystery of Godliness continues to unfold in our lives, we are eternally grateful that in the council halls of eternity, before the foundation of the world, God purposed to redeem for Himself a people. Only He knows why the names written in the Book Of Life are there, but we somehow found favor in the eyes of the Lord. We the elect are recipients of a special kind of justice, a justice possible only because of the grace, mercy and Love of God. A justice possible because He sent His Son to the cross to die for the sins of His people. Defeating sin and death-our sin! our death! He rose to life again wrapping us in his righteousness, making us whole in Him. Only then, because of Him,are we able to receive that just and fair reward of salvation and eternal life.
“ Great Sermon! ” This is a beautiful scriptural Truth. This is a topic Todd has spent much of his time developing and has preached sermons related to this topic on many occasions and it shows. The sermon is a great blessing. The only thing I would like to add is his comment on the hymn, "I Surrender All" I love this hymn. I realize that no one is capable of surrendering all because of the, "the body of this death," as Paul put it in Romans 7. But don't you often have a great desire and prayer to do so? I know I do. And this song is an expression of this desire. I hope Todd doesn't ban this hymn from the service because I feel it is a great blessing for God's elect to express their desire, love, and admiration to our Lord in this manner.
“ Thank you for this sermon. ” Your said on the audio recording (41.02): "I don't want fair, I want grace. Salvation is not a matter of justice. No, it's not JUST. Hallelujah. Thank God, it's not just..." I am shocked to hear this. God's salvation is infinitely just. He is a God of infinite justice. You ask, "Why does He save anyone?" And you answer, "Because He's in charge." But it's more than that, isn't it, pastor? He saves His people, because He cannot do otherwise. He is constrained by the Law and by His Own Decree. Their sin has been covered in the blood of the Lamb. He MUST come to them. Each one realizes that they are "justified", in due time. Their soul, being resurrected from the dead, is proof that their sin is gone. It was laid upon Him, their Saviour, long ago, in eternity past. To say that, "He's in charge", is true, of course, but you must say that the Father gave these souls to His Son. He has commanded that they are the recipients of eternal life. He MUST come, by His Word and by His Spirit, and He MUST tell them that they are without blemish and without sin before Him. And hallelujah, each one is overjoyed at the news! They receive a new heart that believes all that the Father hath said! Certainly, God is in charge. But He's not an Ogre. He moves in perfect justice according to His Covenant.
