Great Sermon! Thank you Rev. Thackway for this message and warning about the newest waste of ink & paper. As you said - it is not in the line of Tyndale and the A.V.! The publisher and endorsers of this thing are just re-doing the NASV. The ESV is a fraud and a waste of money. Look at the way they have ruined John 1:18. Read that passage and tell me how many Gods does the ESV translator team have? Shame on Packer and Sproul for endorsing this repackaged RSV/NASV! This rotten thing uses the hideous W-H based Nestle/Aland 27th edition Greek text. I said "Amen" when you asked how many times before Nestle/Aland finally get it right?!(27 tries so far) and in this ESV they still can't figure out that there is a big difference between "Thou" and "you". Even the RSV got the pronouns correct but not this "newest" "bestest" edition which puts in brackets the resurrection of the Lord Jesus in Mark's Gospel. Sadly, it seems to be the new "darling" of so many reformed/conservative pastors and laymen. How many are able to memorize verses using this reheated RSV/NAS? ( almost as bad as the NIV). I won an ESV Study edition on a website and the only thing I like is the leather cover. Woe unto them who delete words/verses from God's Bible, and who put in brackets and notes and insert doubts. Is. 40:8
Good study. Good balanced study about the sueriority of the Authorized version over modern versions. At the same time there are good arguments for the Reformers' textal critic discernment.
A must hear! Thank you Pastor Watts for this outstanding message on a much-needed subject. It is full of Scripture, history and unction. May a new generation rediscover the old Book!
Great Sermon! Greetings. I've received word that a poster has a question about Providential preservation and perceived textual errors in the Scriptures. If that person will write to me, I have some information I can send him.

Important information I encourage all Christians here to listen to this sermon. Several issues discussed are new to many, so dont expect it to sink in right away considering his audience has some background on this topic. However, the foundational issue discussed is when does a 'translation' become a faulty version.
KJV. The REAL Bible Thankyou Rev.D Blunt For an excellent message and timely teaching.
"Bible doctrine is at stake!" Rev.D Blunt declares and he is absolutely correct. Do you really have the Bible? - Or is it a modern version?
The turnover of modern versions these last few decades should warn the church that there is something wrong here! Satan's temptation of Eve, "Did God really say that?" The devil seeks to undermine the Word of God. Of course he will try to rewrite it in erroneous terms and doctrines.
But Christ states, "Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God." How else may God carry out this promise, but by ensuring HIS WORD reaches His Elect. God preserves His Word!
Whilst the modern versions add and takeaway from the Bible.
Solid message Good basic message on the truth of the preservation of scripture by God. As pointed out, the word of God has been preserved by and among the elect people of God. The oracles of God have been committed to the people of God. Through Jesus Christ, the church is the pillar and ground of the truth because it is holding forth the word of life.
Important Sermon for American Pastors! What an important Sermon!
Too many self described 'defenders of orthodoxy' on this side of the pond ignore the importance of the Authorized Version. I find my 2 local 'reformed' pastors are more likely to reconcile their sermons to the Westminster Confession or Heidleberg Catechism than the received Word of God. They shamelessly offer the NIV( a local OPC Church), the NKJV (a local RCUS Church) to their congregations with little concern to this issue. Not only to they dismiss the use of the AV in the production of their catechisms, but they shamelessly decry other Christians as violating the truth while decorating their sanctuaries with Yule Trees.
Great Sermon! What a fantastic sermon! Rev. Silversides has presented us with an aplologetic argument, not only for the Authorized Version, but for scripture as a whole. I had never heard many of the points he brings up, and they are presented in such a way that I found them irrefutable. Though I have found that the ESV "suits me" I will never go back to it again. Thank you Pastor for this fine defense of God's Word.
Great Sermon! Having heard this address and with a view to the point that J I Packer is the General Editor of the ESV one would expect a glowing recommendation by the 'puritan scholar'!
Possibly, he has a reason for seeking to revise and update the RSV? Providentially after hearing the above I read J I Packer also recently revised and updated his book 'Rediscovering Holiness' with praise for mother teresa, which is hardly the expectation from a Christian writer never mind any 'puritan' scholar.

According to the F-K [Flesch-Kincaid] formula 74.3% of the books [in the KJV] are on or below the sixth grade level, and 94% are on or below the seventh grade level! . . . And the FRE [Flesch Reading Ease] rated 97% of the KJV books as Fairly Easy or Easy! These were all first place statistics!"
(D.A. Waite Jr, The Comparative Readability of the Authorized Version, p. 80)
A search on the web will reveal that the AV is actually easier to read than the ESV, but of course some would rather have any version but the AV. Please note what Rev Thackway mentions about why many have abandoned the NIV which was supposed to be the Superior replacement for the AV...if of course you believed the publishers blurb.
