Great Sermon! Thank You...I needed this. I am dealing with a family member who is a homosexual. She openly serves in her church, a church full of homosexuals. When the topic of sin comes up, she thinks that people are discriminating against her choice of sexuality. I am praying for her....
Need for a Savior. Man is shut up in sin and condemnation and he cannot save himself. He needs a Savior and God gloriously provided a Savior in the Person of His Son.
God is just. A message about God's justice. God is just and He must judge our sins because He is holy. The greatest manifestation of God's justice and punishment of sin is in the cross of Christ.
Very useful. Very good presentation of Calvin's three roles of the Law: the pedagogic role, the political role and as guide for the Christian life. Rich and profound material.
Great salvation. We would be forever lost without God's work of regeneration, for we cannot and we don't want to mend our wicked hearts. All is grace.
God defines sin. The sin of man cannot defined by philosophy, by culture, not by conscience, but by the Law of God. God must speak about our condition, define it! He defines our sin and our condition before Him.
Significance. I understood from this message that in ourselves we have no significance to give to our lives, but the significance of our lives is given by Christ. We are not our own, we were bought with a price. He is giving significance to our lives.
Providence and patience. Thank you! I really needed this message! In the last 2 days I passed through a fiery furnace. I had no problems with God's sovereignty, but I asked myself if God really cares for me now. This message reassured me about His Fatherly care and wisdom and spoke to me about the need to trust in Him and to have patience under tribulations.
Great comfort. God is our Father only in Jesus Christ. Without the salvation work of Christ, we had no access, no right to come to God. We were enemies. And now God is our protective Father, working in us likeness to Christ, making us better servants in His Kingdom, to glorify Him better in our lives.
Very good study. Very good presentation of Calvin's view on preaching. Preaching is the sign of God's presence among His people. It is the instrument through which Christ rules in His church. The Word preached comes through the instrumentality of human agents, but Christ is in the faithful preaching.
Great Sermon! Jesus Christ challenged the Pharisaical "conservative" and orthodox clergy (who justly opposed the "liberal"
Sadducees) by challenging and even **deliberately offending them to their hypocritical faces**, contrary to the laws of Political Correctness, as a guest at their own dinner party. This UK preacher proves how relevant this sermon is today and how similar reproofs and charges are met with by Today's modern pastors. "Reverend Pharisee...pastor Sadducee", he says! It applies best to the modern "organized religious establishment" who make "civility" and "politeness" their own guardians to prevent their being rebuked, and the truth preached.
Could it be that this message applies very broadly to many churches and pastors in America too, and explains the deplorable condition of modern Christianity? It is like Gilbert Tennant's sermon against "An Unconverted and Unregenerate Clergy".
Could it be that similar judgment is about to face the UK and America for apostasy, as it did the Jews in 70 A.D.? The preacher considers it.
Every historic revival has always challenged the present clergy and their political correctness and professed "orthodoxy" (traditions of men).
