Awakening Sermon! Without exaggeration, this is one of the most moving and awakening sermons I have heard in some time. How frightening the day of the Lord's return will be to those who cry to the rock's and mountains to fall on them. The irony is, unrepentant sinners will not have Jesus the Rock, and yet they cry to the rocks to hide them from Him when He comes to judge the earth.
Great Sermon! This was a much needed sermon for me as I am dealing with 19 and 18 year old girls. Thank you for such a very wise and needed message.
Most Popular Narration After two years of broadcasting, this is the most popular sermon narration from this narrator on Sermon Audio.
It is an abridged version. The original was four ninety minute tapes read for the Chapel Library.

Great Sermon! Could their be a relation between the destruction of New Orleans and Southern Decadence that was to begin in the city on August 31st?

How about the the warning of Jesus in Luke 13:1-3? Does God even control these events? Such questions are well answered in this sermon.
Powerful Sermon! Hear this powerful message and good reading! Oh, professing Christians and church members, Examine yourselves to see if ye be in the faith (before it is too late)! Sad to say, Many in our churches today are "not far from the kingdom of God"...
Where there are no tears, all you will find is "tares"....etc.
Great Lecture Reading! Yes, Whitefield was correct.....there are no apostles living today.
Only the early apostles had supernatural signs and wonders and could "cast lots" to be led by the Lord.
Wesley's superstition "casting lots" just reveals his errors in his Arminian doctrine...
(Now that we have the complete written Word of God, signs and wonders have ceased)...
The Dismissal of Jonathan Edwards At the Jonathan Edwards Conference marking the 300th anniversary of his birth, Oct. 2003, a sermon was preached "How Jonathan Edwards Got Fired, and Why." In this biography are the actual details. What is remarkable is how humbly he behaved himself during this difficult trial, and how committed he was to God to work even this for good.
In many ways he resembled the lamb-like disposition of his Saviour as the charges against Edwards were unfair and the emotions against him unreasonable.
Works of Jonathan Edwards In the first fifty years after Edwards's death, two editions of his works were published. This was followed by the publication of four volumes, prepared by Jonathan Edwards, Jr., between 1774 and 1801. After his death the writings were left under the control of his son Timothy Dwight, president of Yale College who planned to publish them but died before accomplishing it. All writings were then left in the custody of his son Sereno Dwight who added more manuscripts and wrote this biography. The new materials contained the letters of J.E. and his personal papers. Originally these comprised 10 volumes.
Yet the work was far from complete. It is only now being finished by the Yale publishers.
Great Sermon! There is one part of Edwards' famous sermon that is probably least palatable to the modern mind. In our day we are told in a famous tract, God loves you and offers a wonderful plan for your life. Edwards' told an unreconciled sinner, God abhors you and is dreadfully provoked. These two methods of addressing the unconverted are so antithetical one cannot but wonder if it represents two different views of the holiness of God and the real condition of the sinner. If Edwards' is correct, a lot of modern evangelism is wrong simple because it is anxious to tell the good news without enlightening the conscience as to why the news is good. But secondly, the end result of the modern evangelism is it leaves one with the conclusion that the issue is not at all urgent but something to think about every once in awhile, but not that serious to be put off. There then is no crying out in some desperation, What must I do to be saved? Acts 16:31
Great Sermon! Thank you for speaking to these issues. Shortly after listening to this message I was contacted by our local newspaper asking me to comment on some issues that have been brought to the public's attention due to the death of Terri Schiavo. I thank the Lord for having me listen to this message so that I could give a biblical and well informed response. Thank you!
Standards of a Bygone Day While narrating the bio of Edwards for Sermon Audio, I came across this statement about this Treatise which really is amazing by our present standards and convictions. The quote is from Sereno Dwight, Edwards' biographer.
"It is also said that many persons cannot understand the treatise; {On the Religious Affections} and the answer is, that he who is too young to understand it in its substance, is too young to make a profession of religion; and he whose mind is too feeble to receive it substantially, when communicated by a kind and faithful pastor, cannot understandingly make such a profession."
Great Sermon! This is helpful to remind us that we must distinguish between ordinary and extra-ordinary means of life support, as well as when are we saving life and unnecessarily pro-longing the natural death process. Alas that so many in our society turns these terms on their head and thus right to life becomes right to die! May God have mercy on our truth suppressing country or we are in an undone state and ripe for judgment.
Religious Affections 6 The interest in this book has been very surprising as it is one of the most popular items I have narrated of Edwards' works. This is the correct file now for download 6. At this time I am busily narrating the Life of Edwards by his great grandson Sereno Dwight. This is a massive biography, but it is in the public domain, and it is the one that is in the two volume edition of Edward's collected works. Coming soon.
Problem with #6: (its #1 in series) Unfortunatly, this sermon was mis-titled as it is a repeat of the the first download in the series. Hopefully the broadcaster will update this in the future.
Searching Discourse Allen, Life of Edwards, 231 - "It has been said that any one who can read Edward's Religious Affections, and still believe in his conversion, may well have the highest assurance of its reality. But how few there were in Edwards' time who gained the assurance may be inferred from the circumstance that Samuel Hopkins and Nathaniel Emmons, disciples of Edwards and religious leaders in New England, remained to the last uncertain of their conversion." He can attribute this only to the semi-deistic spirit of the time, with its distant God and imperfect apprehension of the omnipotence and omnipresence of Christ. Quoted in A H Strong's Systematic Theology, p 846 John Wesley had little patience with this work, but reformed theologians and pastors, such as Edward Payson prized it greatly.
Great Sermon! I truly appreciated this sermon. In a world that is trying to crush the true role of women, "Motherhood vs. Lady Macbeth" helps encourage younger and older women alike to anticipate, fulfill, and enjoy the role that God has given them: to be wives and mothers to His glory.

New Narration Believe it or not, I re-read this sermon on cassette on January 1st of this year - 2005.
Kind of a New Year devotion, you might say.
The special effects, such as the interview of the person in hell "if we could come to inquire of them one by one, etc." are created with the program Cool Edit Pro.
