The Old Testament presents to us many saviors before The Savior, many judges before The Judge, many deliverers before The Deliverer, and many kings before The King. Among these many forerunners of Christ, few are as significant as King David. A.W. Pink says, "David was not only the ancestor of Christ, but in some respects the most eminent personal type of Him in all the Old Testament."
Father, we admire King David, a man after Your own heart, who fought Your battles, who sinned horrifically and repented earnestly, who loved Your law, and delighted in Your perfections. But we give thanks and praise for the greater David, Jesus Christ, Your Son. As we study the books of Samuel, help us to lift our eyes from King David, son of Jesse, to worship King Jesus, Son of Man and Son of God. Help us to seek His glory and His kingdom forever and ever. Bless Your church with Your presence through the Holy Spirit as we gather on this Lord's Day.
Amen. |
