Jesus spoke of his approaching "hour" a number of times throughout his ministry. He used this term to refer to his coming crucifixion on the cross. The whole trajectory of his life pointed to the cross. It was there in behalf of his people that Jesus accomplished reconciliation between the holy God and a sinful people, became the propitiation for them before the wrath of God, as well as the substitution for the judgment that they deserve. In addition, eternal redemption was secured and the power to walk in newness of life was granted them. So God's people can now live their lives by faith in the Son of God and no longer live as slaves to sin but for God's honor and glory. A great deliverance!
