We are to rejoice while grieving over suffering (not a contradiction – we always have conflicting emotions). The solution to sorrow is greater joy (a clean river is bigger than the muddy river). This kind of extreme jubilance seems unrealistic – probably because our rich culture gives us so much access to the pleasures of this world that we opt for shallow pleasure, whereas people who suffer are driven to God where they find the deep joy. We are on a train ride to heaven, and you get the deep joy by looking out the window more to see the boarders of your inheritance. The suffering is short and necessary.
