The people had been taken into captivity and they are starting to think that God has failed them. They are thinking that God has not kept His promises. Have you ever thought that God has failed you? God never fails. People do.
There was a king still on the throne. The promised royal line continued on (Matthew 1:11-12). Even while they were in captivity, God was still working.
We can doubt at times, especially in prayer, but remember that the problem is never with God, it's with our weaknesses.
God told Jeremiah that if he could stop it from being day and night, he could stop the covenant. What God was proving to Jeremiah, He's proving to you and me: He is faithful.
