On the day following His triumphant entry, as Jesus approached Jerusalem after spending the night in nearby Bethany, He saw a fig tree that was in leaf. This would normally suggest that figs were present, but on closer inspection, there were none. Jesus cursed the tree, entered the temple, cast out the moneychangers and those selling animals. What is happening here? Did our Savior have a fit of temper? Did He get up on the wrong side of the sleeping mat?
